M030 facts I did not know

I was at the stealer purchasing the missing parts for my suspension DIY.
I was surprised when I asked for the m030 springs, the P-shop salesman asked me
which softness I wanted on the springs.
Me being practically sure, I replied M030.
After asking me 3 times the same question, then came the info.
It seems the M030 springs come in three kinds, soft, medium, hard. (thus street, street-track, track)
To know which is what, it seems that the springs number of colored lines painted
on them is the code.
1 line street
2 lines is street-track
3 lines is track
on top of this, the rear strut set-up have shims .
for 1 line springs- 8.0 mm shim part number 993.333.511.02
for two lines 5.5mm # 993.333.511.01
for three lines 3.0mm # 993.333.511.00
And when I asked for three stripes, he called the chief mechanic for more explanation. (I know these guys well)
The mechanic said that if I mount three stripes(track) for street use, this will shaken the car more and make things rattle.
'Coup de grace' was the shop salesman telling me that he doesn't care if I wanted three stripes, and that he had loads of three stripes in stock, and could give me 15% on those.
So I chose front two stripes orange, green, and rear two stripes brown,
with the 5.5mm shim.
I have taken a picture of my new springs, and a three stripe picture from the net.
Has anyone had this experience before?

The shims are to level the car as the stock shocks have no thread adjustment on the rears. With various combinations, one can get the car level within +/- 1mm or so. Might not be the height you'd want, but at least it would be level. These are part of the reason why the height spec is (a very wide) +/- 10mm.

I bought the Bilstein HD M030 kit from Gert. The kit from Gert shows 3 stripes. The only thing I learned the hard way is that you cannot use this combo for ROW Ride heighth. The rear springs only allow M030 to RS ride height. The kit from Gert stiffens the car up quite nicely and I have no rattles.
The car is also less bumpy than my stock Acura RSX that I use for work.
I am quite happy with it.

I hope this is the case, but the stealer said no height change with the shims.
I presume its the same height if either spring is used with its recommended shim.
If not, yes a different shim should level the car differently on the same spring
here is the workshop manual page confirming his saying

FWIW, Porsche uses the brown markings for the 928 as well. In fact my S4 springs looks similar to your 993's, but the possibility of having 1, 2 or 3 marks is in this case apparently a function of equipment (ie. load); a fully equipped car has the stiffer spring rate with 3 markings. I would query if not the same was the case for the 993.

two stripes front, street/track
three stripes rear, track
according to the stealer
Bill, Your avatar reminds me of a Nava helmet I had at 14 yrs old. I love the colour, my favorite
Kolbjorn, stealer says load is defined by color.
For example: rear M033 can be either white or lilac.
Lilac is for cars with A/C and tiptronic.

I wouldn't worry about the "shake the car more and make things rattle" issue. I have run 993s and many other Porsches with much more stiff springs, including 600/800lbs, on both the track and street for many miles without a single rattle.

My M030/turbo ROW springs are two green stripes and one orange front and two red rear respectively ( M030 rear is typically two brown).
The third stripe is normally a tolerance increment of ~2% to accommodate the weight of accessories ( eg., A/C) as Kolbjorn said.
The spacer inserts for the rear top spring mount (item 10 on the following WSM page) are also colour coded .... white = 5.5mm, blue = 8mm. I do not know the colour of the 3mm one.
Other that correcting for rear height total and side to side variation, their function is primarily for the non adjustable Munroes; however, it is also an important point to be made for those installing Bilsteins to be aware of the spacer size.
Despite having a threaded adjuster, the goal is generally to have the rear height correct on the first time in - for to adjust again requires considerable disassembly. The recommended installation heights measure from reference points lower on the shock .... without regard/mention of the spacer installed in the top plate. There is a 5mm variance in this range - important for those adjusting the bottoms to within a mm.

Geolab: Mine look exactly like Bill's but have different numbers:
965-343-531-01-504-M100
993-333-531-16-504-M100
I asked the local dealer and he told me that the numbers pair-up but didn't know about the three ratings and was therefore unable to confirm which ones I have. Have you come upon my part numbers?
