Default 993 w/Salvage title and story. What is it worth?

I have owned my 1996 993 Speed Yellow C4 since May of 2001. I bought it with 15,670 miles on it, and it now has 58,000 miles.

This Porsche has a story behind it. It was originally sold in 1996 to someone in New York. It was stolen in early 1997, recovered by the FBI and held as evidence—so it was stored in a warehouse in South Dakota between 1997 and 2001. A car dealer in Oklahoma (www.planet9eleven.com) purchased it from the FBI at auction, and I purchased it from him. The car has a salvage title because of the theft.

The good news: I have had the car since 2001 and there is no indication that it was damaged in the theft. It even had the original keys. It’s a great car, and I am selling it only because I have a baby daughter now and I'm on the hunt for an awesomely fast family car that she can ride in with me!

Specifics about the car: it is a 1996 993 Speed Yellow C4 with 58,000 miles. It has always been maintained to the highest standards.

Options –Snow tires, H&R springs, ROW M30 shocks. Aftermarket heated seats. New clutch at 48k, New Bridgestone S03s at 48k, Litronic headlights.

What does everyone think would be a fair price for this car? It also has 18" Forged BBS wheels. A local dealer has offered my $25K with the wheels.

Thanks for the help.

Pictures of the care are at http://www.mcdonagh.com/993/

I am thinking of a RS6 does anyone thoughts regarding the RS6?

Hmmm, what kind of aftermarket seats does it have?

I read your ad and you're not too far off at $32K, but I think you're really looking at the high $20K's if you want to move it with any speed. The salvage title is often a real deterrant to buyers. JMHO.

Take the $25K offer. I doubt you'll do much better witht he branded title.

I agree. You could spend a long time trying to do marginally better than this.

even though you have a good explanation for the salvage title...it is still a story, and no one wants to hear a story when they are looking for a car...i'd take the $25k.

It's not a widebody "S".

Take the $25k and run.

Hang on a second. The local dealer... are they interested in buying the car or is it a trade-in?

On RS6 - not a bad car if you are looking for a muscle car rendition of the current vintage. Similar to 70s muscle cars in many respects. So much so, that most people who bought them are trying to sell, much more so than even the E39 M5 crowd.

If you are looking for just that - sound and straight line acceleration and are willing to live with an automatic transmission, you should try the car.

I can't imagine you couldn't do better private party. Maybe not $30, because of the title, but if it's apparent there was no lasting damage, that's a very nice driver for a good price.

A bigger question, which no one has asked, is why a dealer is offering you so much?

Take the 25k but be firm and take no less!

If it were a C2 you perhaps could get a bit more (as odd as that may sound)...

A C4 is a great family car!! I dont think anyone has been in my C4 for over a year besides me. My son has another 2 months before he turns 1 year old so that will be the start of him riding with me in the C4.

I would think $25k is a good price. My thoughts are you could probably get more but if you want a no hassle transaction, take it.

I am surprised a dealer is offering you that much! Are they aware of the title history? Perhaps they don't intend to pass that info on to potential buyers...
