Thanks - everyone
Thanks for the input. It is not a Porsche dealer it is one of those little dealers that specialize in high end cars and He is aware of the story.
Just answer the question about the seats. It has after market seat heaters.

Point of reference ... I sold my clean guards red 95 Carrera 4 coupe with 58k miles in August, clear title, needed an evaporator and AC condensor (but the buyer didn't care), $29k. We'd agreed on $31k before we found out about the evaporator, which is a bear to replace.
I'd take the $25k if I were you.

Just to throw more fuel on the fire, if the car is not wrecked, has factory paint and is in good working condition it's a bargain at 25k.
The cars under 30k have high mileage, transmissions with a lot of wear, etc. I looked at these higher mileage cars and I have to say most were in very poor condition. One had a bad transmission, and the rest had really bad road rash. It was very fraustrating to say the least. So looking at low priced ones on Craiglist doesn't tell the whole story. Ultimately, I had to pony up more than I went in wanting to spend. You get what you pay for...
This isn't to say that all high mileage cars are in bad shape, some are probably in better shape than a neglected low mileage car.
However, a low mileage 993 transmission is worth 5-7k, and the engine 6-10k, regardless of title. (These prices seem to indicate what the LA Dismantlers are able to get.) So your paying 8 thousand for the rest of the car.
Bottomline, this would be the rare exception where I would take a low mileage salvage vehicle over a high mileage car. I would probably just make it a track car or DD.

chris walrod just picked up on of these cheap 993s that i had seen on CL and he seems pretty happy with its condition based on his thread last week.
this car (with the salvage title) has 58k miles on it already, so it isn't exactly a garage queen anymore (though i haven't seen it and have no idea what condition it is in). additionally, and here i am being a sinic, i don't really know why this car had a salvage title and neither does the current owner, right? i mean, the dealership that sold him the car told him it was a salvage because of theft...but is that really the only reason? i have no idea in what condition this car was purchased by the dealer and what work they did on it before they resold it (though i guess a good PPI would probably tell most of the story). yeah, it might all be perfectly innocent...by why risk it at all...i'd just keep looking for another 993 with a clean title. which is why i think if he has an offer of $25k, and he wants to sell it, i think it is a good deal for him to take.

I agree with everyone's comments. I think you'd be getting all the money for that car with a salvage title at $25k. I also agree that you should keep it. The replacement cost for that car with a clean title is higher and you're never going to find anything remotely in the same category of quality and fun for that money. As everyone here will agree, 993s are special cars and yours sounds like a good example. You already own the car so the title issue should be irrelevant to you until you sell it. Buy a baby seat and keep the car.

FWIW, I have a 993 as my daily driver and I have a 9 girl and a 6 year old boy who both ride in the back only. Sure, it's a PITA when they take to picking at each other, but I can reach them easily They start to complain every once in awhile about no room but when I mention selling it and getting a bigger car/truck, they both say "no way dad".

To do much to an RS6 you have to yank the engine. PITA. Look at E55 and M5 as well.

My 95 was wrecked and even with the salvage title ive been offered $28K for it without even trying to sell it. Purists freak out WAY too much over salvage titles, the general public does not. There are MANY ways to clear them dishonestly.

Many people look disparagingly at salvage titles, but it all depends on finding the right buyer. I just sold my 1990 Mazda Miata with a salvage title, non-matching paint, no AC, ripped soft top for $2,100 and included four steel wheels and Pirelli tires and an extra soft top that needed a new window. It took about a month with ads on craigslist and specmiata.com.
I know we're talking about two different price points here, but Kelly Blue Book said that the car was only worth $1,600 in fair condition. I knew I could find a buyer who wanted a cool, economical car for under $2,500. The 993 holds far more cachet and far more scrutiny, but I think it can be sold for about $28,000 if you wait a bit. $25,000 would get the deal done in even less time, obviously, but you have to factor in the "bargaining down" process that might net you only $23,000. JMHO.

After having gone through the route of selling my fun cars because of kids, going to SUVs, and now having a 993 in the garage, I think you should keep the car. We seem to get way to hung up on the convenience factor of owning SUVs, sedans, and minivans when we have kids. How many of us grew up riding in the back of small cars before there were so many "family" cars? I grew up in the back of a VW bug and we went everywhere in the thing. Just look at the back of a 993. If it isn't for kids who the heck is it for? The guys in Stuttgart know what there doing. Good luck with the decision.
