Default C2 vs C4 (or what are C4 negatives)

Do I even need to ask the question? Obviously there are negatives to the C4 (understeer) but is that enough to consider NOT looking for a C4? I think I understand the positives so can you focus on the negatives of the C4?

I promise - this is the LAST of my x vs. y questions! I liked the idea of starting a poll - is that available on this site? I can't find any polling links on this site.

Thanks again to all of you who responded to the cab vs coupe question - great responses (even the one who called me "********"!).

Regarding understeer in C4s, there are several prior threads on how to reduce it. Also, I think understeer is relative to expectations. My old 911 understeered badly under certain conditions. I've owned half a dozen AWD cars and I wouldn't have anything else in a daily driver. I'm sure NW Montana isn't the sun belt, either.

I think the weight is more of an issue. 993s aren't exactly overpowered and my C4 feels every bit of its supposed ~3200 lbs.

Negatives of a C4? You cant do burnies as well as a 2wd and thats the only one I can think of.

Weight and understeering-never even occured to me nor do I care.

always had C2's. always wanted a C4. will always stay with a C4 except if it is a carreraGT or turbo. As for understeer. Unless my PDAS system is not working, I have not experienced understeer and I have a bad habit of going hot and heavy into pretty good curves. I was going to put a C2 21 mm rear sway bar in but not really sure if I need it. But that is the recommendation in addiiton to tire pressure variations. I don't DE my 964 so that may be a whole different story. Actually, I don't remember too many oversteer situations with my 993. Do yourself a favor and get a 993 C4S, you won't regret it.

I think that's how you avoid understeer in a 911. How do you make the front end bite without forward weight transfer?

The guaranteed understeer move on both the 911 and 993 was to drive moderately through a medium tight turn. Accellerate through the turn hard enough make the car really squat but not hard enough to really slide the back end out. The front end will get light and start to wash out in a very annoying way.

Modern AWD cars like my old STI use an active center differential and a clever front LSD to actually pull the front end hard into the turn. Not sure if there's any way to make a C4 do that.

LOL...I was thinking the same thing.

Let's just combine this thread with the Cab vs. Coupe and 993 vs. 996 threads and call it a day.

So as a relative newbie, if someone wouldn't mind humoring me - what are the advantages of the widebody? I have a C2 narrow and like the looks and (perhaps I'm ignorant (more like probably )) have thought, if I don't have the extra power and turbos back there of the TT, what is the benefit? Extra rubber back there? Leading to the understeer questions? Inquiring minds want to know!!!

The widebody removes an extra $10k from your wallet when you buy, stores it in the wide fenders, then gives it back to you when you sell.

I'm not going to touch this one either. But to learn more about the C2 vs C4 question, or narrow vs widebody, I'd suggest the following keyword searches:

1) racetrack advantage
2) 0-60 times
3) foul weather system
4) a**hole
5) talking out your ***
6) RWD fascists

care if it was a C2 or C4 when I was shopping a few years ago. I was more into finding a nice vehicle with everything I wanted. The 95 C4 is rarer car in the world of Porches.

Buy a C4 Coupe and you wont regret it. If you do, convert it to a C2 and then if you dont like the C2, convert it back to a C4.

If you just track the car, go with a C2, if you want to have fun really pushing hard on mountain roads, go with a C4, also much safer for 95% of the drivers out there. All 3 of my vehicles are AWD and i will not change.
