Hi David,

I notice your reasonably local to me (I'm in north Herts), do you know of anyone who does a live remap near here? (If I was closer to Warrington I'd use 9M.)

Cheers

Cat bypass could affect your annual pollution control. Could be expensive...

Hi Simon,

I think JZ Machtech can do it (or know someone); they are in Kings Langley. I'm pretty sure AMD in Bicester (do a lot of Audi/VW and Porsche) can do it as well. Having heard such good things about 9M I might just hold off until I can take my car there (plus they have lots of interesing stuff to look at!).

Cheers,

David

Ok! So if I understand well, the by pass is not a valve that opens at a certain RPM but just a "tube" that turns around the cat.
Of course I don't want to fail the pollution control...if so the "$$$$$" solution stays the only option?

Hi Toga,

Cat by-pass is a pair of tubes that you replace the cat with. I would guess that you, like me in the UK, need a cat of some sort to satisfy emissions...

Cheers,

David

I have an emissions inspection due every two years. My thought was to install the Cat bypass and remove it for the bi-annual inspection. I believe the cat bypass is a bit louder and more sulpher smell but I do not know the extent.

Hi Toga,

That's a yes unless you go with Dave's proposed "hassle every emission test time" solution though you hear lots of stories about people having de-catted their cars and their still passing emissions tests!

Dave - I should warn you my garage had a hell of a time getting the old cat off and given how even a few winter weeks of driving locks up the bolts pretty solid you may be having a fun time every time you swap the pipes oer...

Cheers,

David

David, Thanks - those are concerns of mine, and I most likely will not decide until the I put the car up for the winter. I am also looking for a track car, I may retire my cab to garage queen status.

The first time is always painful since typically they've been on for years. Once removed, replace them with good quality bolts, and the next time for removal will be a comparitive breeze.

I've found those catalizers on the FVD site.
Anybody know one of these Bischoff or Gillet 100 cells cat?

Hi JP,

That's not too bad a price for the sports cats. FVD are German? If so then these should have passed TUV.

Cheers,

David

Yes FVD is German, but they have distributors in several countries. A good resource for parts. I still have to check with Gert Carnewal tough. He's often offering good prices too. I'll mail him, because I'm not sure he has cats available. About TÜV I don't know...I will ask them.

Cheers

I hate when they don't add the VAT on! At that price you might want to check out Cargraphic but then their website probably does not add VAT either. At least you only have 16%; we have 17.5%!

Cheers,

David
