Maybe it's my eye, but the 959 is gorgeous.

I can appreciate that since beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

On the other hand, I find that those wheels aren't exactly inspiring either. Get out a marker and put a face on them, and you'll have one of those happy-looking talking star-fish cartoon characters!

The 959 is fascinating in the technology it represented AT THE TIME (1985) and for that it really is a masterpiece. I dont think its so great to drive as its said to be very soft and the geometry not so great. Performance of a 993tt would certainly exceed it in almost every way. So, for me, while it would be cool to own one, i dont think id crack my piggy bank open for the 'collectable premium'. I would think an F40 would be a much more wild ride on a track.

But, if i was a car collector, then, "whats not to like??"
I think the 959 would destroy a stock 993TT.

I love the technology that the 959 embodies. I will concur that it not the most beautiful Porsche. However, you cannot love the 993 without a serious nod to the 959... the styling, AWD and so much more eventually went into the 993 and other cars in one form or another.

Looking at the Canepa website, they have a Ford RS200 Evo! That is one fast car. "The EVO has been clocked as the fastest street car ever produced at 0 to 60 in 2.1 seconds and an est. top speed of 185 mph..." I wonder if that is accurate, 2.1 seconds is superbike fast.

If I had the money, I would buy a 959 over a Carrera GT anyday...now, that guy in Germany, $295,000 so that you can spend another $100K to get it US street legal is hysterical....

0 to 60 in 2.1 seconds is also 917 fast.

I'll try to scan some pictures of 'my' 959s. I was at the factory in 1986 when about 10-15% of the 959 production was there, either being finished up or worked on after customer deliveries. The first time I saw one was on the lift/rack in Werk I,--from the back and in poor light I thought it was a 914 with the Chalon kit on it! But when they started it up,--no doubt!

Incredible technology, that we are finally starting to see in today's common street cars,--e.g., the 997 Carrera and it's active suspension.

The front end of the 993 is ALL 959...right? How can you not love that? The look of the 959 is so unique and BADASS! Too many cars look great but don't stand out. The 959 is in a class all it's own.

Our porsches are cool but a ferrarri F40 is art. Art that would probably break down on the way to the grocery store but still art.

I do not understand how anyone could say a 959 is ugly, I think it'svery stylish and has 993 & 993TT written all over it. What an incredible machine so far ahead of it's time. Think about 1986-87 technology pumping out 450hp from 2.85 liter engine, that's over 150hp/liter. Send one back to the factory and I heard with mod's it pumps out 600-650hp. If I fit the lottery I'm buy'n.

prez!...I am right there with you. Lottery=959. Done deal! Then I would buy a nice house in the Hollywood Hills with a choice garage to park my new baby in...then I would pull that beast down onto Sunset and just be chillin...I should stop daydreaming about this and get back to work so I can EARN the $ to do all that stuff! Anyone need some advertising on Citysearch.com? I am your man!
