Just a quick update. Did the SAI valve last month, what a bear!! Completed the job just before Joel's PCA tech rec of a SAI change and flush every 30K, if not sooner. Oouch, wished I had flushed.

Anyway, the pss-p's are in and I thought I'd post a pic or two.

Needless to say, the original ten year old suspension is/was SHOT. The new set up is a dream; on and off the road; my crummy photos don't do it justice. Eaier and much more rewarding than the *&$5*#@% SAI valve!!

Replace all the engine belts, brake lines, hood and rear deck shocks, battery etc. (I've got a set of 8 way power black leather seats that are like new for a 993 $1,000 the pair.) The factory sound system in the early 993 was worthless. Take it to a high end audio installer and put a new system in. Even Curcuit City can do a better job than stock. SS brake lines are tricky, if they are not secured properly they act like a file and will rub holes in anything they touch.

Thanks Duane. Han't thought about the brake line change. Is this a maintainence item or more of an upgrade item.

You're right on re the sterio. I'm working that project right now.

Partial sterio up grade completed. I picked the 220 due to the combo of dials and of having a "Porsche radio". Speakers to follow, eventually. Thanks are due the 996 RLister who upgaded his system.

Yes, even if the mileage is low.

Jack,

Looks like you are doing what I now think is the sensible thing - renewing the hi-fi at little expense. When I had my Targa I put nearly $4,000 into changing the hi-fi and my conclusion was that I should have followed the advice of the Rennlister who told me not to waste my money as a 993 is a bad place to try and appreciate good sound. It did sound great at idle or with the engine off though!

It looks like you are yet to change the speakers in your car. You should at least change the door speakers (rear speakers are not so important). The diaphrams of all my original speakers were broken.

Oh, your car looks fantastic. Enjoy.

All the best,

Here's my list of things just done after 12 years a few weeks ago. $6500 later. Short shifter, Gert Protection Bar, and the AC "Gremlin" in a few weeks once I get back on track from my travels.

1. * Suspension upgrade:
a. 4 X Bilstein HD shocks (with 30mm extra threads)
b. 4 X ROW M030 Springs
c. Front 22mm M030 Sway Bar
d. Rear 20mm M030 Sway Bar
e. Rear Drop Links
f. Front Drop Links
g. KLA Strut brace install

2. * Change spark plug wires-Beru
3. * Change air inject check valve (SAI check valve)
4. * Change both cabin air/pollen filters
5. * Change the engine air filter
6. * Change all 12 spark plugs (yea, esp. # 12 that, I know, is a PITA)
7. * Change both distributor caps
8. * Change both distributor rotors
9. * Change fuel filter
10. * Change engine oil (I will supply 10Q Mobil 1 - 15W50)
11. * Change large oil filter
12. * Change small oil filter
13. * Change A/C compressor drive belt
14. * Change Alternator drive belt (inner)
15. * Change Alternator drive belt (outer)
16. * Change power steering belt
17. * change ignation coil wire
18. Change manual transmission fluid. REDLINE
19. Bleed/flush the clutch hydraulic system
20. Bleed the brakes
Note The brake system was completely flushed less than 7 months ago so the
(ATE super blue)
21. Please perform all the (remaining) normal checks, lubrications etc. as
specified in the
60k service interval. In particular, please re-lubricate/check tolerances of
the manual
transmission gear-shift linkages/bushings etc.
22. Remove and Clean ISV
23. Replace front hood shocks

**THE UNEXPECTED**
-belt tension indicator-bearing was froze.
-Ignition coil-shot for the most part
-Distributor rebuild

My ISV was really clogged up. The occassional stall with the lwf. I think Steve W. has been telling me to clean for about 2 years so I got it done!!

Dan: You're right about the tranny fluid. I'll change it and the G D isv valve long before the next 10 years or 30 K miles.
