Kenny: Unfortunately the car does not have an LSD but the unit on the 96 track car is still working. Chris: Thanks for the tips. BS911: Thanks. Why spark plug #6? Deanriffs: Tampa wrench rec'd it. RKB: You're right. My seat foam is toast. Is it an easy replacement? (leather is fine). David: Ac was frosty cold in today's 99 tempts. Knock on wood.

Why spark plug #6? Ha... I take every chance I can to take a stab at dealers. (I've been on the receiving end of their absolute pathetic, horrendous, miserable excuse for quality service too many times.) Find me anyone who has had a dealer maintained car and I'll find you someone with a factory original #6 upper sparkplug. The problem is that you can't access the upper #6 from the top side of the engine like you can in the 964 and previous model 911s. The power steering pump is in the way. So you have to remove the muffler, remove the shield separating the top and bottom of the engine, and access it from below. Takes a total of 10 more minutes of work. Yet it is almost a guarantee that the dealer's part time monkey wrench working on your car has no idea how to get there so they just leave it knowing that you have a brand new lower #6 plug. Who would notice right? Punks. Pure punks.

I could tell on mine because 11 plugs were one brand - Bosch fr5dtc - and the #6 upper was a different brand and just completely looked like it had been in there forever. I'm not sure if there is another way short of removing it.

Brian: your links aren't working.

Jack: I just got my front seats and rear bottoms reapholstered. They look fantastic for $800 total. I'll post pictures soon.

Jack - Re: speaker replacement. Obviously you can go nuts like me (I must be sniffing too much Sevoflourane) and I'm doing MB Quart separates with 2 Alpine amps, an Alpine processor, and a pair of subs from Rod Glass. Or, you can be more sensible and contact Rod for what he suggests. He has lots of tested solutions that fit for both Hi-Fi and non set ups. On top of it, he's probably one of the nicest guys you will ever work with in the car stereo arena.
Re: the seats - no idea, sorry, I had just run across the info right before your posting. It seems others have better info. Although, I would guess that if you yank the covering, you probably cannot re-use it.

I had a 30k service done at an independent and they changed belts and spark plug wires at the time. I believe it is part of the recommended 30k service.

Getting back to parts and wear items in need of attention after 10 plus years, got me wondering about my LSD and thinking about time to service / replace. What are the things to look for to tell if it is gone or worn out? I can only imagine that this is not a cheap item to rebuild?
Thanks,
FS

Primarily the leather. My car is originally from LA and the leather was so hard and tight you could knock on it. Since I was getting new leather, naturally I asked them to re-pad them. My seats now feel better than any other Porsche I've ever sat on. The leather is thick but soft so it grips you well (as opposed to the factory leather, which is tight and slick) and the padding makes it very comfortable. They kept the original stitching pattern so the look OEM.

I would lift the car up, remove the steering rod protection cover ( Front car Protection sheat) and check the steering rod bellows.
These are rubber accordeon tubes that protect the steering rod ends. After ten years, there is a great
chance these are dryed up and cracked.
It takes 5 minutes to change. If you want a detailed DIY, I am glad to tell you how.
part number 171 419 831 c price $10
I would also change the 4 stabilizer mountings. I mean the rubber silent blocks that hold the front and rear stabilizer bars.
These come in different sizes depending on your stabilizer bars size. (20mm - 21mm- or 22mm)
My Carrera S ROW are 22mm. front and 21mm rear.
Easy to do it yourself.
the price for those is +/- $25 for the 4.
