Standard vs Motorsound Airbox Cover
The Motorsound Option airbox cover seems to be pretty popular around here. My '95 has it, and I definately noticed the sound difference the first time I test drove the car. But reading the recent threads about intake air temps and the like, I've begun to wonder if I'd be okay with the sound of the stock airbox cover.
So, last night I covered the little holes on the side of the cover with some gaffer's tape. Since mine is the last 993 I've driven, I've gotten used to it, and I'd forgotten what the stock cover sounds like. What a difference! It doesn't have that WHOOOOOOOH sound at WOT anymore, and I think I like it this way.
Obviously it's a matter of personal taste, but I'm wondering if there are some of you who actually prefer the stock airbox sound over the motorsound airbox sound.
Thanks.

Yesterday I drilled a stock airbox cover with the exact motorsound pattern.
I have RSR mufs and I can not tell any difference.
Is there something different on the INSIDE of the motorsound cover compared to the stock?

Oh yeah, I like my Motorsound airbox cover--my stock one sits in my basement with all the other removed parts.

So when I drilled my airbox, it made a big diference at 5000 RPM.
But...when I modded my mufflers...forget about hearing the intake!!!! All that Wooop is drowned out by the exhaust.
Cheers!

1) Drill a number of small hole (i.e. 1/4" or so)(middle picture) through the two small rectangular areas that can be viewed from the inside of the cover (the rectangular areas are actually small injection-molding flash lines from where the injection-molding mold is divided, however it shows you nicely where the motorsound holes are placed.
2) Drill a number of 1" holes in the same bounded area as discussed in #1 or, alternatively, throughout the cover.
3) Cut the entire outer surface of the airbox cover off leaving only the mounting edge to retain the airfilter in position (shown is Fabspeed's version, but you can do the same).

The difference in sound qualty before and after was great, the route I took. Mille Miglia exhaust with Fabspeed 993 Cup Air Box-very satisfied with the deep growl it produces.
