993 Oil Recommendation

I went to go and buy some Mobil 1 15-50 and the retailer advised me that they longer make 15-50. It was replaced with 5-50. I was also reading that some Members use 0-40.
What would be the recommended oil for a car that is driven in the summer?
Any pros and cons?
I do not track.

In the summer, the number before the "w" doesn't really have any relevance. i.e. the "15" and "5" only apply during "winter" -- at or below freezing. I will go with the 5w-50.

That retailer does not know what they are talking about. You can get the gallon jugs at Walmart for around $24. What he MAY mean is that they no longer make the regular Mobil1 in that grade, and he would be right. Now they only offer it in the Extended Life version with the gold cap.

993cab,
There is lots on "oil choices/recommendations" in the archives ...and I mean lots! Do a search and check it out. And remember, your "summer" is different from everyone else's summer (you don't mention where you live). Anything above 75 degrees ambient and I would personally use a 15w/50 synthetic in an aircooled Porsche engine.

I think Mobil is going from 15w-50 to 5w-50 but there are still plenty of old stuff left.
Nothing wrong with 5w-50 (when it happens), it's actually better.
