My Sad, Sad Fraiday....

Glad to see that it was just the car and not you. The way your thread started I was having visions of the lift dropping the car, not raising it. I am also in the market for a lift and have been having nightmares thinking about all the things that can go wrong with them?
Good luck with the repairs.

My eyes are wide open just staring at the screen imagining the horror. So sorry about the situation. Thats the kind of stuff that usually happens to me.

It makes me sick just hearing about it, thank God that it just cosmetic and not the running gear.
I just can't understand one thing, doesn't that lift have stops? All it would take is a switch that you can
adjust to the limit. On a good note, there's nothing about the drivability that would ever be in question.
That always seems to be the case when involved in an accident, you always feel that it doesn't quite drive the same.
So with respect to that, you are lucky! Chris

That's horrible!
I think you'd be better off if the car was totaled out. That way you can take the insurance money and go buy another 993 that hasn't been damaged. Dealing with roof/A-pillar repairs are difficult. There's always the chance of poor panel/door fitment, wind/water leaks, chassis/suspension damage.
What did the lift do when you unplugged it? did it drop down to the next safety catch, or did it stay up against the ceiling? What is your ceiling made of? It takes alot of force to cave in the roof on these cars.
I'm glad you weren't hurt.

OMFG! I thought I was having a bad day! My first beer, of many, will be lifted to you and your car. I wish you the best of luck on what ever you decide to do with your car.

So sorry to hear of the damage. Perhaps, with the passage of time, you can think how to get some lemonade out of this. Someone suggested the sunroof delete. I would add... rain-gutter delete. If you've ever seen a 911 with no gutters... its amazingly smooth. Best of luck with the repairs.

OH SH*T,
That gave me chills.
Good luck and I hope everything works out fine.

I used to work for a large industrial company that had an intense focus on safety, to prevent accidents in the workplace. An employee would have to lock off equipment before attempting to reset an electrical box, do repairs, or attempt any maintenance. It prevented many accidents, injuries, and damage.
Your damage sucks and I would still be crying if it was my car. But I' also be kicking myself for not turning off the lift before resetting the breaker and having stops installed so the car would not go to the roof. Not quite certain how your accident is due to a defective product, but rather it seems to be from an unfortunate lapse. Have you talked with your insurer to see if there's any chance your comprehensive insurance will cover this?
