I used a company in Florida called AGLA (Alan Gunn Leather) a couple of years back. They were slow, but the work was good. They replaced the leather on my BMW M 3-spoke and also fattened it up a bit. Quality work if you can deal with not having it for awhile. Otherwise, try a reputable auto upholstery shop in your area. Good luck.

I would second the vote for AGLA. They did a redo on my 911 wheel a few years back. They will give you a loner wheel while yours is getting redone. Their work was very good.

I recovered the one on my SC last year just before I refinished the interior. I got the covering from Pelican but I think they source theirs from AGLA as well. If you do it yourself, I've got one piece of advice; get a thimble and tape your fingers. Pushing a fairly thick needle through leather with approximately 200 holes is time consuming and painful to the fingers.
AGLA will do it for you but they charge about $150 for the service. I'm not sure if they carry the alcantera but the leather they do carry feels great. There is another source that offers leather in multiple colors but I can't recall the name right now. If you have any interest I can find it.
Here's mine after recovering and adding a crest to the horn pad.

The website is http://www.aglausa.com/. Nothing there about Alcantara, but they do have a custom service that I recall as being pretty flexible. Let us know how it turns out and don't forget the pics!

michael- just checked out this link. they seem to be the ones to use. thanks so much. perhaps they can get a hold of some alcantara, or allow me to send them some.

DO NOT HAVE AGLA recover it if you are going suede.. I had a HORRID experience with them doing alcantera on mine! They might do a better job for regular leather but suede was HORRID (alcantera in my case which I was also lied to about btw).
