a few sets of these have been trading hands in the VW aftermarket community for around $2500-$3500, depending on options, condition, and upholstery. a lot of people regard them as the finest "street" seat recaro makes. they're nice and comfy!

Those are genuine Recaro A-8s, in leather. The ones for $2500 in the VW forum were cloth.
I am convinced these are the holy grails of Porsche race seats. Body fully braced, yet rear-seat accessible. The OEM does not have sub-belt opening inserts. I believe Jim Mortion is working on a set (yes he has a set of A-8s) with a sub-belt opening. They have bolt-on rails that fit 993 as is. Mine does.
There was a thread here about 9 months ago about an e-Bay German auction for a black leather pair with a 'buy-it-now' price of $6k. I don't know the auction results.
These are sand color thus a little limiting on buyers. If they are black they would fit more cars. I'd love to know how much they finally go for. My guess is between $4.5 to $5.5k.
Here is what mine looks like, in buffalo hide, for added 'traction'.

CP is right.
Here are some photos of my recently completed A8's with added sub belt pass through.
In additon to reinforcing the seat belly pan (a known A8 issue), I also refinished the seat backs in gloss black glasruit acrylic urethane. Getting the seat backs ready for high end paint from the rough finished plastic shell was loads of fun....
Value-wise, these seats are quite sought after. I paid about $1500 for the pair of "cores" I started with. They were "buffalo" leather with about normal wear. I bought them from a VW guy in Germany.
With all of the work now in these seats, the value is a mute point... they became a labor of love.
Enjoy the photos !
