On a Whim- would you own a DeLorean?
I saw a Delorean in a local parking lot the other day and still marvelled at it's incredible look and gull-wing doors. Of course the Back to the future film series immortalized the car forever.
I just looked at Auto-Trader and found a few with less than 5k miles. I know the Ford motor is not the best around, but I don't know anyone buys this car for a work-horse daily driver. I look at this car as a Jensen, or an old Alfa Romeo type of car.
So if finance and garage space are no issue, would you own a Delorean?

Hey Pong,
I would, but only if it really speaks to you ...of course that's coming from a guy who had an Alfa for about 15 years so my opinion may be, oh, tainted.
"Yes" on the Jensen, too ...so long as we're going down memory lane. Really, there are lots of great, affordable cars out there. If only had the room to put em.

I've always appreciated the Delorean for the ingenuity it represented at the time. Although I've never had a desire to own one. But if one of my buddies showed up for a weekend cruise with one I'd gladly welcome them. Some variety is a good thing.

No. Although a great idea, they were never given a chance to evolve into a good car.
I still think that Detroit was afraid of what Delorean was capable of and set him up for the fall.

No. Definately no, but that's just my opinion. I have a mechanic friend that's had one in and out of his garage for the past year. The poor customer must have spent a fortune to be able to go 0-60 in 10.6 seconds !

I would like to have one but I would be scared that I would never find anyone to work on it and that parts would be completely unavailable. Is that true?
But, if given an option I would take another 911 or 944 turbo..

BTW: There is a guy in my parents neighborhood were I grew up who has had on with the Volvo engine FOREVER and it is indeed his daily driver in non-snow months from about May through October and YES I used to see it drive every day on my way to work/school while I was living at home and still see it parked out in front of the house when I go to visit and sometimes see it driving.
I don't know if the owner is a Volvo mechanic or what....
I also know there is a local Delorean chapter very active because I saw 8 Deloreans driving up Sheridan Ave (lakefront drive) just last Sept.
