Wow, although not statistically accurate, >80% are occasional/never. Wow again.

I think alot of it depends on what options you may have. I just purchased a very low milage 1998 C4S that is perfect and I do not think I will ever drive it on the track. However, I am lucky enough to own a Cayman S that I drive on the track with the feeling that the Cayman can be replaced and the 993 can't. I also just sold a 2005 Cup Car that I raced for the last year plus. Taking a year off racing with hopes of getting a 997 Cup Car next year. So I feel it depends on what you have driven on the track and what you might have. Now if I really like the 993, I could buy one that is not as nice for the track. Always thinking of whats next.

From Paulsha911's post here: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/253737-my-new-c4s-portland-sf-raod-trip-pics.html
this is my idea of how to use a low mile, pristine 993:

Your right! What can be better than driving on the wrong side of the road?

My 951 is my designated DE car and with a whopping 4 days of experience under my belt I am no threat to anyone in the Novice group. Sometime in the near future, I'll bring the 993 to a DE instead. The upgrades done to my 993 (PSS9s, TRG swaybars, Dunlop R tires/MY02 5 spokes) will be applicable at that time but I would rather have more actual DE experience before I bring my 993 to the track.

MPSC's on the few times my car sees the street. I only have two sets of wheels, both shod with R compounds, and don't really feel the need to buy a third set for the five times a year I drive it on the street.

Makes total sense. I'm more concerned about those that might use them year-round. And they are terrible in the rain too...IMHO.

To each his own and everyone buys these cars for different reasons, but I believe if you have never driven a 993 or any Porsche on the track you are missing out on what these cars are all about.

My Dad owned Porsches for all of my childhood and they were rarely driven above 4k rpm and never saw an autocross or DE day. Now that he doesn't have one I have taken him to an AutoX and a couple of DEs and I can tell you the smile on his face is bigger than I think I have ever seen.

It is an amazing time and all it does is make you want more.

I tend to agree with those with really nice cars not bringing them to the track. To drive the car correctly on the track, you will undoubtedly end up with paint nicks, windsheild chips and the like. And why destroy a nice car. I bought a high milage car, something to learn on and play with and not worry about. It is ashame however that some of these cars will never get the workout they were designed for, but there will always be queens in any marque. I have way more fun driving the 993 in DE's than most of my time racing VW's, I do miss the competition, but the things these cars can do is exillerating.

I do, because I only have r compounds on my wheel sets. I used to have street Michelins on one set, but I never used them, as most of my street driving was on an occasional weekend afternoon, in the dry, running fairly quickly through the local country hills. R compounds work well there also. I have come to find that driving my 993s, or any 911, in daily driving is an unnecessary annoyance when you can't use the car anywhere close to its abilities. I'm reminded of the old saying..."it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow". I usually drive my 356s, or even a good 912 when i have owned them, on the street.

This is one of the reasons my little Miata is so much damn fun. Overcook entry into a corner on an off-ramp and the back end comes out a bit. Give it a bit of opposite lock and away you go. A total blast an a thousand times more fun than my honkin' Sequoia. On the street, I just can't push the 993 the way I know I can on the track and, yes, it's not as fun.

Not all R compounds are bad in the rain. Try a set of full-tread Toyo RA-1's; their wet grip will amaze you. It astonished me and helped me actually enjoy driving in the rain with their predictability and high limits.

I have been running shaved RAs for the last year or so and will buy a full tread set in the next few months for rains....as well as the shaved.

Shaved RAs are not bad in the wet, but not fun in any puddles. Downpours are not fun! As you can tell my my sig. I am somewhat of a RA-1 fan.

For me, the beauty of the Porsche is that you can have a nice daily driver, drive to the track in A/C comfort listening to music, then track the car and it will perform at a level few other production cars are capable of. Then you can continue to enjoy your Porsche driving home passsing fellow tracksters who need a big pick-up truck and trailer to haul their car and huge amounts of stuff to the track... My only car is my Porsche, and I love the ability of the car to do both street and track VERY well. JMHO.
