Default Too tall for the 993?

I'm 6'2" and am looking to buy a 993. I just sat in one for the first time, a 1995 C4. It was comfortable, but I had NO room for a helmet. Part of the enjoyment was taking the car to the local track and doing autoX... which won't be an option if I can't wear a helmet.

Anybody out there of a similar height that could wear a helmet? Next car I check, I'll bring my helmet, but am curious if others have had this problem and what did they do to solve it.

There is two positions the seats can be bolted into, fore and aft. The aft position not only gives more legroom, but a little more headroom as well.

I ran into this problem while wearing a helmet. I ended up installing one-piece seats bolted directly to the floor, but not only for reasons of lack of helmet headroom.

With the factory seats, you'll have to play around with the adjustments to find just the right one that gives you ample headroom and a good reach to the wheel. I am 6'1.5" when I stand up straight

Play with seat rails can be removed to increase head room

I'm 6'4" and am able to drive in autox somewhat scrunched up, with the helmet touching the headliner. I remounted my seat to the rear which may have helped. It isn't particularly comfortable but once I'm on the course I completely forget that.

The mount holes that are further back do add about an inch of headroom. I couldn't get clearance until I went to one piece seats bolted to the floor. I wouldn't do track events for long without harnesses, and I wouldn't use the 5/6 point harnesses without proper track seats.

My solution (I am 6'4") was to buy a Targa. Plenty of headroom (and sunshine too).

I'm only 5'11 with a long torso and I can't fit with a helmet either. Solution is lowered racing seats, I guess...

I'm 6'3" and fit with helmet (Simpson Voyager) just touching the headliner.. I have stock seats.. Once I get going on the track I don't notice any headroom issues.. Everybody has slightly different dimensions for a given overall height.

I'm a freakish 6'6", and fit nicely with seat reinstalled at the rear-most holes on the rails... I'd never make it comfortably with a helmet though.

I'm 6'3" with a long torso. My headroom is fine without a helmet, but I couldn't sit even on the back mounting point with a helmet.

My solution was a GT3 seat. I didn't sit any lower on the street, but you can remove the lower seat cushion when you wear a helmet. That gave me another inch or two which was plenty.

The short answer is there are plenty of people with this problem, and it's definitely solvable.

Talking My vote...

Racing seat, bolted to the install points where the standard seat rails go...remove the pads for the track. The seat bolted to the car gives incredible car feel over seat rails. I did a before and after with EVO II seats. The bolted seat was far better for car feel. Leave those sliders to the non-track folks.

The best advice, find someone who has already done the install that you are contemplating, and sit in their car. Installs that should work, sometimes don't...and as some will tell you, seat install work is a lot of work...nothing ever seems to go as planned. Don't ask me how I know this!

I'm 6'2" with sport seats. I don't know if my seats lower further then yours but they are down all the way and I scrunch a little bit. Its a bit different then what I would prefer but I get used to it pretty quick. Not a problem to the point of needing to switch seats I would say but I guess that depends on how often you would track.
