Default Time for Tires - Again

It's time for tires, and I hate the non-N rated Kumo's that I have. So my tire guy is recommending:

Pilot Sport "N2"
SO2-A "N4"

I know there are lots of tire threads that I could search but let's have an updated conversation about an ongoing topic.

Daily driver with frequent spirited canyon runs. No track or AutoX.

Constructive comments welcome.

My car is a daily driver and I am very happy with my Pirellis......great dry weather traction and not too noisey....I have had both 17 and 18 inch......but NO GOOD in winter, switched to Blizzaks for winter driving

Fred: I like the S02A's just fine on my daily driver.

David: Our winter is just a bit of rain.

Check out Falken 451s. They work great on my C2 and don't break the bank.

Fred,

What sizes are you getting & where did you get this quote? I'm running 295s and TireRack is in the $375 range.

I just got some Toyo T1R's. Pretty happy with them.

Got 'em CHEAP from edgeracing.com.

Bridgestone SO3's: as good Michelin in Dry - much better in wet conditons. Check out the comparisons that Tire Rack has on their site.

I'd the Pirelli PZero Rosso and now I've the S02A on a 993 4S (285/30/18). The difference is like night and day. The S02A are the best type I've tried until now.
(My 4S is my daily driver).

Never tried the Michelin..
I've tried the the Bridgestone S02 (not A) only on my old 994 C4 : too noisy.

Ciao

One of our former list members, highly regarded as a 993 authority, recommended S02-A as one of the best tires for a 993.

Had the SO3's and now have the PS2's. I like the PS's better then the SO3's in the dry so far. On spirited canyon runs the SO3's got greasy when they got hot. The PS2's have held up better when hot so far. I have yet to try the PS2's in the wet though and the SO3's were very good in the wet. BUT....this is so-cal so........

BTW, Viken the ex-member tire expert always recomended the SO2a's, PS2's and his dunlop ssr's (which are no longer made ).

Or for about half the price of the 18" PS2 in 235F/295R, if you tell the site you have an '04 GT3, you could get Kumho Ecsta
I am waiting till someone says something really negative about these before I try them.

I really love Bridgestone S03 Pole Positions. I had a set on my VW and NOW put a brand new set on my Boxster S... although I only put 200 miles on the ones on the Boxster S, I can still attest they are a great tire after going through 2 sets on my VW

...for my 993, I have only R compounds since it is a dedicated track car now
