Default $$$ of a 993 RS Vs. 993 RS Conversion???

So, like the title asks, what are 993 RS's selling for and what does it cost to convert a C2 into an RS clone?

Since I'm still in my "looking to buy stage", I wanted to get some input on this. I am in complete love with the RS look in everyway and if I did get a C2, there is a 110% chance that I would make an RS clone.

With that in mind, am I better off simply buying an RS or is it less expensive to convert a C2? I'm not in it for collectability so that fact of it being a "real" RS doesn't bother me at all.

Comments?

Also are there any good web pages that give a complete run down by each specific P/N, what the differences in the C2 and the RS are so I can get a better overall idea aside from simply seeing the exterior differences and knowing there is a suspension difference? Also was the RS a '94 only?

Thanks!

i don't think the RS was ever brought to the US, so, i think, you would have to bring one over and make sure it was up to DOT spec (an uncle of mine did this once with a car, and it was not worth the hastle).

To turn your 993 into an RS clone would probably cost $25k in engine/tranny work plus $5k-$10k in body parts and other bits & pieces. That's a rough guess and I'm sure others have some better numbers. But with that much money, almost everybody would just step up to a 993TT, which would be a much much faster car for the same price. I believe that importing a real 993RS is also in the same price range as a 993TT, or more.

omg. i am trying to imagine how you perform the sun roof delete...you take off the whole roof and replace it with a non-sunroof roof (where would you even get one)!?

There was a real Speed Yellow RS for sale in DE a few months ago. I think he was asking $85k.

There is a technical manual for the RS, about $20 dollars through www.carnewal.com that will have everything you're looking for.

It depends how "real" you want your clone to be, but generally, it will be cheaper to get the real thing. A 100.0% clone is tough to do, there are so many little nuances (like the light in the driver footwell area, etc.)

I sold my 1995 lhd 993RS in the uk a few months ago for about $74k....Sorry guys I appreciate the US position with regards to the RS..but no matter how much you spend on a conversion a real RS is SO much more than the sum of it's parts.

In addition to the technical manual you'll probably want to go through the dealer PET catalog and look for anything with option codes M002 and/or M003. For the the engine you'll want everything that is marked G64.20, on the transmission you'll need anything marked G50.31 for the regular RS or G50.32 for the clubsport RS. Going through the suspension, brake and body sections you'll need everything marked "Carrera RS". It doesn't seem like a whole lot but it adds up quickly.

If you're interested, my near-RS 3.8L conversion is for sale...it's even got more power than an RS and is street legal in CA as opposed to an imported RS. PM me for details.
