Mike,

I'm with you too- it's interesting that superior build quality is always touted as an advantage of the 993 over the newer cars such as 996/997. If this is how Porsche backs up the 993, it really makes one question why you would consider a new car with poorer build quality when Porsche won't even stand by their well-built cars.

Mike,

An impassioned but polite letter to Peter Schwarzenbauer outlining the issues at hand just might be the easiest route right now. Porsche thinks you're going to go away; disabuse them of that notion. I've had excellent results when battling corporate giants by writing to either supervisors or CEO's and informing them that I am never going to go away and that I will make it my mission in life to reach a conclusion that is to my satisfaction. This intrepidness and determination can be highly effective in persuading others that finding a solution to your needs is, ultimately, mutally beneficial and the easiest course for them.

Good luck and keep us apprised of your progress.

Absolutely pathetic isn't it! Why is the targa not a body panel? It certainly isn't a toilet paper 'cos I cannot wipe my butt with it! They have forgotten the hardships that they as a manufacture had to endure in the early 90's.
Surely it doesn't cost much in the grand scheme of their profits to replace the targa for one, heck, even 10 persons!

Count me in as well. This failure to stand behind their product is disappointing to say the least.

I've been thinking my next car was going to be a 997 GT3 but this kind of customer service really gives me pause. They probably don't care but I agree this should be covered.

I'm with you Mike. Any reasonable person would consider the roof to be part of the car's body; it certainly is on my car. Just because Porsche decided to construct the roof of the Targa differently than the coupe doesn't mean it is any less a part of the car. Let me know what I can do to help - letters, phone calls, whatever it takes.

Definitely should be a Cost of doing Business for Porsche and not a Cost of Buying a Porsche for a Customer.
