Question No more Techron??

Went to three different Chevron stations yesterday looking for Techron. When I asked the attendant in two different cases, they stated that Chevron is no longer distributing Techron separately due to "circumstances". Is this true? Is this unique to Canada?

Hmmm... hadn't checked recently. I hope that this isn't the case. If it is, it may have to do with generic gas like Costco and Safeway, which has no detergents.

Or maybe it's just all the SAI flushes depleting the global supply :-) ... I'm going to do some more homework on this via the internet and see what I can uncover.

I saw an entire endcap full at my local Pep Boys the other day. Maybe the stations just aren't carrying it anymore. However, here in CA they still market the fuel at the pump with Techron.

Cannot speak for Canadian availability. This is one source for mail order http://www.autobarn.net/ch65740t.html

Also, I found BG 44k to be as good as Techron if you need alternative. http://www.bgprod.com/products/fuelair.html

My local Porsche dealer (Boardwalk) recommends 44K.

Got some (Techron) at a local "Autozone" store within a month - in Steelertown. Never heard of BG44k.

BG44K is what lots of the pros and shops use to perform intake manifold & fuel injection cleaning. Very high end stuff...too bad is so expensive.

I have not been able to get it in my neck of the woods (Canada/Ontario) for the past year or so. Walmart and Canadian Tire were the only places I used to see it. I thought that since Chevron stations are not in eastern Canada, it just became not worth it for these stores to carry it when other brands are available and most folks don't care.

Since its the only stuff I use, I try to grab a few bottles whenever I am across the border.

Cheers;
Eric

I always used Redline SI-1 on my previous BMW's and never had any complaints. Redline say that this is also safe for Porsches. Has anyone here used it on their P-cars?

I work at an independent porsche shop, and weve been using bg44k for years. this stuff awesome, on really bad CIS cars ive taken the injectors out and pressure tested them to see the spray pattern, if it isnt right I run the 44k through the pressure tester and the spraypattern comes right back to normal. I swear by this stuff. in fact, im kinda thirsty, im going to go have a can right now.

I purchase the BG44K fuel system cleaner through a local Mercedes dealership. I just did search and it also sold on eBay. Cost is about $15.00 a can. I alternate between BK44K and Techron about 500 miles before my 3K/yearly oil changes. I found BK44K is more heavy duty cleaning than Techron.

Interesting tip on the BG44K ...would be interested in hearing how some of the shops/tuners here chime in on them. Don't forget about the LubroMoly stuff, either. Their Ventil Sauber and Jectron are good additives/cleansers for the fuel system and valve train. I've used both for a few years now and like them; it seems to really make a difference. Reasonably priced, too.

Edward
