All the best,
Look at the bottom right corner of each quote and you see some graphic quotation marks. If you put your mouse over it, it should say "quote...". Click on it and it will quote the entire post. then simply delete the parts that aren't important.

I've changed the wheels and I like them very much. The car feels more compliant over the bumps probably due to the 17" wheels.
Thanks Jason, yours looks sharp too. Not very many around either. I can't remember the last time I saw another one at a local event.

Hey Chris.

I didn't say the are light, just lighter than my 18s! I have heard that the Speedline Targa wheels are quite heavy.

I will weigh them next time I swap.

Patrick, Are you sure that they are lighter? I had my Targa 17's weighed and they were anything but light at Fronts 24.2lbs each and Rears 27.5lbs each giving a hefty total of 103.4lbs. This does not compare favourably with the now discontinued 18" Veloce GT1's which totalled 67.5lbs. I am guessing that the 18" twists would total something in the 80's.

Jason, I like the look of the Targa wheels, have no problems with them filling the arches with my RoW M030 suspension settings, and from what I understand they provide a performance and comfort advantage over 18" wheels and tires assuming that the tread contact width is the same.

Could someone please teach me how to quote properly from a message in a thread?

Hey Chris,
I had this information in the archives... The Targa wheels are lighter than the 18" solid twists but heavier than hollow ones.

...................................Technology (hollow)...............Turbo Look (solid spoke)
7.5x18 ET50 (Front)...............................................993.362.134.06 --24.91 lb
8x18 ET52 (Front).......993.362.136.00--19.95 lb.......993.362.136.01--25.57 lb
10x18 ET65 (R-NB)......993.362.140.01--23.36 lb.......993.362.140.04--29.32 lb
10x18 ET40 (R-WB).....993.362.140.00--25.13 lb........993.362.140.03--31.08 lb

As the cars age there will be a greater appreciation for the orginal stock form. Think of your 993 as a 356 30 years from now. I went back to 17" cups and I like the "classic" look, even though its only 8ish years old. It does ride and handle better too.

Jason, Thanks for this info and Patrick I now understand your point. I wrongly thought your 18's would be much lighter. I now feel a lot better about my Targa wheels! I have not been able to find anything really light (in the 60-70lb range for a set) in 17", or even in 18" to which I would only reluctantly go to. So I had them repainted and they look great to my eyes.

fbsisher makes a good point about the "classic" look. I often hanker for something new as I hope it will give some performance advantage, and then I catch myself. I really enjoy reading about some of the older P's. Great thing about the 993 is that it allows you to enjoy the old and the new at the same time.

Thanks to Kelly and infinii on the posting tip.

Personal if I had to keep one set I’d go with the Targa wheels. I agree with you the Targa wheels give the car a unique look. Beautiful car with either wheel!

Hey Chris. Was having the wheels refinished a big deal? Wheel Enhancement here says they cannot refinish these wheels because they cannot source the wheel bolts. (2 piece wheel).

My Targa wheels are a 7 out of 10 which is fine for the track, but not if I want to keep them on the car.

Let me know how the refinish went. I know you are in HK. Thanks.

Hi Patrick,

I went to our local wheel refinisher here in Vancouver and they said not problem to refinish the wheel. They made up a special tool to get the bolts off and they strip, turn and repaint the wheels. They don't think matching the color is a big deal. They charge about $150CDN/wheel.

Cheers,

Mike

Patrick, I had the refinishing done a few months ago at the eqivalent of USD64.10 per wheel. My shop simply took the wheel bolts off. They did not replace them. They kept the car a few days and the whole operation was very straight forward. I would recommend it if you can get a good shop.

Thanks Mike and Chris. Sounds like a future project. Good to know I can have them fixed. Sounds like Wheel Enhancement just didn't want to fool around with them.

The two things I don't like about my Targa wheels is they are a real bear to clean (the little bolts are countersunk and you need a toothbrush to get in there) and they look a little small on the car. I do like the 5 spoke pattern though...

But a nice set of RUF wheels would look better on the car.... ;-)

Cheers,

Mike
