Default Targa wheels instead of Turbo twists

I've just acquired a nice set of original Targa wheels for my Targa and I've decided to go back to the orginal look. Something about the Targa wheels makes the car look unique and special IMO. But I also like the look of the 18" Twists that fill up the wheel wells, the look of low profile and the fat tires etc. I want to keep the Twists but I'm not sure yet - my wife thinks that I'm spending too much money on the car.

car looks great with the twists. i like the targa wheels for being modular, but they do look little- even smaller looking than cup II's. i was thinking of getting a set of the targa wheels and having the centers painted to match my car, but i'm not sure if they'd still look small. are your twists hollow spokes? if so, pm me if you decide to sell them.

The Targa wheels definately will make your car look unique and special, but I think the car looks better with the twists.

I think so too...which makes it more difficult about not keeping the twists.

LOL... I'll try to keep them but it's a matter of time before my wife will say "the wheels gotta go". Only time will tell.

Why not just keep the car "as is" for now and enjoy the "better" look....keeping the Targa wheels for "originality" at resale if and when you decide to step up?

I have both a set of Sport Designs (avatar) and the Targa Speedlines. I use the Sport designs for showing off and street driving. I use the Targa wheels when I want a change or for the track.

Honestly, the car drives better with the 17" Targa wheels. They are lighter than the 18's.

Ah... one of the Rennlist universal truths.

I say keep both. I have grown accustomed to having 2 sets of wheels/tires for every vehicle "toy" I own. Makes it easy to get tire/wheel work done without having the car laid up. I have the original 17" Cup2 and the 18" MY02s and feel if I ever sell the car, I'll put the cups back on and can easily sell the 5 spokes when the time comes to Rennlist enthusiasts. There is always a market for good wheels, especially hollow twists.

I agree 100% w/pjconner... the car does feel more nimble w/ 17's, but I feel has less ultimate grip. I've been looking for some 17x8 and 17x10 wheels but have never run across a set that I like or was affordable.

Thats a hell of a buy if it is a factory piece! Should have been at least twice that for OEM used. The aftermarket wings bring 1400! Just tell your wife how much you saved by buying used, and smehow liken it to the countless pairs of shoes she has bought "on sale" at 2 for 1

A vote here for the Targa wheels. They are unique and good looking IMHO. If they don't fill up the wheel wells enough you could always do what I did. Get it lowered to euro spec. See my upgrade(s) list.

Craig, I love your Targa! and yes, that will be my next mod.

I've changed the wheels and I like them very much. The car feels more compliant over the bumps probably due to the 17" wheels.

Yep, the car is more nimble. But not as glued to the road ( as stated above). I think it makes it more fun! Oversteer is not a bad thing!

Car looks great. Makes me want to put mine on.

"pjconner

Patrick, Are you sure that they are lighter? I had my Targa 17's weighed and they were anything but light at Fronts 24.2lbs each and Rears 27.5lbs each giving a hefty total of 103.4lbs. This does not compare favourably with the now discontinued 18" Veloce GT1's which totalled 67.5lbs. I am guessing that the 18" twists would total something in the 80's.

Jason, I like the look of the Targa wheels, have no problems with them filling the arches with my RoW M030 suspension settings, and from what I understand they provide a performance and comfort advantage over 18" wheels and tires assuming that the tread contact width is the same.

Could someone please teach me how to quote properly from a message in a thread?

All the best,
