Hi Guys;
Quick question. On the 993, if the sunroof is closed and you press the sunroof switch in the CLOSE direction, should the motor still run or should there be a limit switch of some sort to tell the system that the roof is closed and that the the motor should not run.
The roof works fine, its just that if you hold the switch when it reaches the limits (either open or closed) the motor still runs and does not cut off until you release the switch...
Is this normal operation?
Eric

I guess there is a limit switch that controls when the motor shuts off for open and close thats not likely working I guess. It does this on both open and closed so I assume its a common switch, or something is out of adjustment.
Any ideas where to start looking? I thought only 944's were notorious for sunroof issues! ;-)

I have had my sunroof motor out and I don't think there are any limit switches. I looks like a Power window motor. Most power windows I've worked on don't have any limit switches either. I did have to repair the sunroof switch. When I took it apart it was apparent that it was carbon'ed up from power arcing (no relay in the system?) So I would be sure to let off the switch as soon as the sunroof is closed.

Ok, sounds like this is normal operation for these cars so I will stop worrying then! Thanks very much for chiming in on this guys... I guess the system must just have a slip clutch to not strip the gears then.
Coming from a 944 background, thought I was in for more sunroof hell! ;-)
Cheers;

I have a 1997 C4S when the sunroof closed the motor will stop. Although, my other car 1997 TT the motor still runs when sunroof is closed.
I will ask my mechanic next service I. I think it should have a limit switch otherwise the motor will put too much current and eventually will burn out.

There are no limit switches in the circuit.
When the roof closes and you keep pushing the button, the motor continues to rotate or attempt to rotate.
The roof drive mechanism has a transmission between the motor and drive gear that will absorb most of the torque in this scenario.
That is why you hear to motor running.

Be careful to let off the switch immediately after closing. My girlfriend was listening to the stereo loud while I was driving and decided to close the sunroof. She broke the left-hand cable. It is a PITA to replace.
