Nice job! Now the important bit - what do they sound like?

Cheers,

David

Ya, can't wait to hear the sound but I won't have time to try them out till this weekend. What's the best way to record a sound file? Can I do it with just the
mic on my laptop? Never done one before so no experience.....

I think that an internal bypass tube is part of the RSR modification, so the external bypass would be redundant.

Although it makes me think of the Stephen Wright bit: I put instant cofee in the microwave and went back in time...

Hi Ed,

I think Coleman was referring to a cat bypass pipe (which is sadly not street legal over here).

Cheers,

David

Hmm.. I didn't know that there was that tube in the RSR's... I thought they consisted of a removal of an internal baffle and some steel wool.. My RSR's are a lot more mellow then the audio clips of the Leland modded cans...

That's really all I did to this set, remove the baffle and steel wool. What that leaves is the inlet and outlet tubes having nothing between them though they are not connected. I just tried out the new version and it is quite mellow, a nice sound for sure but not as healthy sounding as the external bypass set (which makes sense as I'm sure a lot of the air coming out of the cat is just going right out the bypass pipe and never entering the muffler...)
Those have the baffle and steel wool removed plus an external bypass. They sound more agressive but I have to say that the seat of the pants feeling is that this internal modification "feels" better, I realize it's probably not enough change in performance to notice but it just seems like a better throttle response. Both sound good. I just wish I could record a sound file, I'll figure out a way to do it and post it.

Default New video/sound clip

Leland sent me a new video clip for our enjoyment.

This is the LPMM mufflers with a cat bypass.... wicked!

Leland, did you ever have the 2" bypass pipes fabricated? If so, did you see any discernible difference between the 1 1/2" bypass and the 2" bypass??

Jeff, I didn't get to complete the 2" pipes because I had one bad muffler.
I actually just threw them away a few weeks ago, which is a shame.

But, on a lighter note... I'm going to be in California next week to visit family. And I'll be picking up my new toy:

Thanks for the info.

Enjoy the new toy. I used to ride for about 10 years (until I was about 18 yo) and miss it. Have fun.

Wow! I have been contemplating a muffler upgrade. I can't believe the sound!! Sounds almost like a big block Chevy!! What does this mod look like from the rear of the car? Can you see it?? Does it look cheesy??
