I can't keep the Ruf Turbo R
My car insurance gal finally got back to me... because of some other "issues", they will charge me 4% of the price of the car (when new) plus the price of the upgrades for comp and collision... every 6 months. This amounts to ~$12,000/year without the liability portion. Unbelievable. I'm stunned. But the bottom line is that I can't keep the car.
The car is in Birmingham, Alabama. It has been checked out to the best of my abilities. It's paid in full, and I have the fully signed Alabama title documents, plus the letter from Ruf attesting to the upgrades on the car. The Ruf invoices are on their way to me.
See the actual car being converted at www.autobahntech.com gallery.
This car is a steal for the $59,900 that I paid. I don't want to make a profit... I just need to sell it for what I paid. email me at ca993twin@yahoo.com for details. I thought I was sick before. I'm totally devasted now.

What kind of insurance are you looking for? Stated value? That is crazy. I agree, shop the insurance. Why is that car so different than your TT in the insurance company's eyes?
This is not a very happy ending to this incredible story....

The other "issues" i mentioned will prevent me from freely moving to another insurance company. I may do a bit of checking, but I think I'm hosed. I really DO want the car.

Steve, don't give on Ruffus up yet.
There are insurance companies that specialize in classic/collector cars.
Very reasonable rates and no they don't care what year your car is. Check with Hagerty insurance.

Steve, I know your kid (s) incident may prevent you from moving insurance companies as a whole. However, why not keep your existing family policy in your name with your existing cars. Then shop for another insurance company in your wife's name with her car and Rufus (multi-car discount, leisure vehicle). I don't know if that is possible but certainly worth a try!

Thanks everybody... I may have panicked a bit prematurely. My existing insurance agent suggested that I try AAA and move all the cars. I just called them and they will take us... warts and all. They are faxing me a quote now, and its expensive but doable. Whew.
Why do I keep doing this to myself? I'll keep you posted if anything changes.
What a nitwit I am.

Steve, you're a great guy (and funny ), quit being so hard on yourself. It's okay to act like a giddy kid when you're buying a 993, much less a Ruf. Take a deep breath, chill and FIND another way!
