Default 993 prices

Hi all. I'm in the market for a 993 and would like any advice you may have in the shopping experience. Mistakes made and lessons learned are greatly appreciated.

KBB calculates a 96 w/60K miles retail from a private party:

Fair: $24.3K
Good: $26.2K
Excellent: $27.7K

Haven't looked up BA's guide, but will look thru my old stash of Excellence to see.

Please let me know what you think of these prices? Fair?

Those prices seem a tad low to me...it would also depend on what body style etc. you would want.

Bump them up 20% and you're getting warmer unless they are really high milers that is. Low miles are not accurately priced on KBB and sellers know it. 2S and 4S are much higher.

I been searching for a car for awhile as well. Those prices arent going to work unless the seller is clueless. If the car is in good shape then you will most likely pay low 30's since the mileage is a bit high.

It is like hit or miss. Everytime, I call for a car I like. It is always gone. You arent alone in this hunt. I am patient but I am starting to get really annoyed with the process since it has been over a couple of months.

As for someone who knows of anyone selling. I am seeking a 96-98 BLK/BLK or MIDNITE/TAN OR BLK C2. I would love a car with less then 30k or just around that number. Let me know if someone is being reasonable. My price is around high 30k. Well back to searching.

a "tad" low????

I must be in the minority, but everytime i see one of these 993 pricing posts, i am amazed at the low pricing that gets tossed around. Maybe prices have just really plummeted, but i spent june 04 - aug - 04 shopping for one of these cars, and NEVER saw one for less than $40k with anything under 75k miles. Even my credit union told me that you cant look at kelly blue book, edmunds, NADA, etc. when it comes to 90s Porsches...

I might just be tried to convince myself of the worth of my "investment" .... but come on... $27k for a 96 993 w/ 60k miles?? From what I have seen, add $15-20k to that price. I am talking private purchase through Rennlist, Panorama, autotrader, etc...

Have the prices come down that much since last year?

But

I would love to find an excellent 1996 993 in any version for $27k. And only a $3k for a spread from good to excellent? Silly

IMHO, there's a big difference between KBB, etc., versus the actual market. I've only seen a few 993s below $30k but they've had stories behind them.

Ishmeal, if you want a better look at the 993 market, look at the Rennlist classifieds, autotrader, etc., and don't rely on numbers provided by KBB.

Let's face it, KBB for the most part is a joke. Yes, it's a barometer for pricing but in no way is it accurate to "market" price on these type of cars. Galves is what the wholesalers use to price trade in and auction cars. The other guides are for "the public" and their accuracy is limited at best.

If anything I've seen an uptick in 993 pricing lately. Especially clean "rennlist" cars with the right mileage.

Prices? I'm stumped. I came across this '95 with 48,000 miles and it sold for $26,201. A dealer bought it and he will probably sell it for over $32,000. I was going to look at it, but at this price I was assuming it had hidden problems.

I was attracted by the price, but I've never seen a '95 sell this cheaply. I thought it might of had hidden problems.

Way low. I sold lower than I wanted because of time constraints in the mid 30's with 50.5K, and I had just dropped 3K on maintenance and upgrades.
