Question Becker (Porsche) Traffic Pro

Does anyone know if the Traffic Pro Nav is a plug-in in the 993 like it is in the 996?

It was on my car. Just needed to jump 2 pins to have the Nokia amplifier powered.

I just finished mine - and it was fairly easy. I'm still having some teething problems (Cant hook up my i-pod and I cant get the navigation to calibrate!) - but it does sound better. And it looks stock - which is nice.

Are you guys happy with the Traffic Pro Interface? I have it and I'm not. In fact, I take an HP ipaq with the Tom Tom navigation system from my Cooper, and just plug it into the cigrarette lighter. The screen interface is just so much better. You really have a 3D view of the streets and really see where to turn. Traffic Pro at times gives me ambiguous information and the screen interface reminds me of DOS...

Is it a plug and play install? Swap out the CDR-1 and swap in the Traffic Pro? Also is there an in-dash CD behind the face? I was thinking this unit may be a better alternative than the CDR-2 (in-dash CD). I already have the HI-FI option with the cd-changer in the trunk.

It took me a bit to get it to calibrate - ended up having a poor connection on the GALA speed sensor at the spoiler module.

Arrwin: there is a CD player behind the drop down face.

I don't have any answers. I'm thinking about selling the 996 and getting a 98 (low miles) 993..and was just wondering. BTW, where did you-all stick your antennas?

My antenna is sitting on the dash in the far right corner. Hardly notice it at all and I have great reception.

How's the sound quality of the Traffic Pro compared to a stock CDR210 deck? My friend installed one in his BMW and made a world of a difference in sound quality.

Don,
In the 993 simply pull the radio, pull the DIN radio sleeve or cage and slide in the TP. It is a tight fit but does fit the dash perfectly. I like the antenna on the rear deck between the speakers. It looks like it came like that. You will need an extension cable (about $20 from Becker North America). All the wires you need to tap (speed, reverse, backlighting) are in harnesses behind/under the radio.

Is it me or is "sound quality" a non issue with the volume of engine sounds my 993 generates. AM sounds fine, when I can hear it!

I replaced my CR210 with the Trafficpro and I'm very happy with it. It controls the factory CDC3 changer and it looks and sounds fantastic (AM is so so). Of course the navigation screen can't compare to one of those color LCD touch screen type out there, but I think they would look out of place in the classic design of 993 dash IMO. Nevertheless, the navigation works very well as intended and I'm very happy with it. I mounted the GPS antenna on rear deck and it totally looks factory.

I agree. It fits in perfectly with the 993 dash. It wont compare to my lexus nav system - but then few can.
