I had to blow the horn at some moron that cut me off and the horn was rather embarrasing! I am thinking about a Hella or something that is loud.
Anybody change theirs out? I saw nothing in the archives...must be a boring project
I saw some on Gerts site and there are some Hellas out there.
Any experience out there?
Cheers

I replaced mine with the fancy plastic french horns that sound like the old style 911's - I had to cut the connectors off of the original USA horns - I thought they were hellas, which was a bitch. I can't say for sure which are louder, but it was a pretty easy swap. I would think you could put any horn in there. I can't remember why we got the new style - was it because the french horns were too loud??

Bruce,
The factory horns suck !! They sound like a your mother-in-laws Buick Century. I did this install two winters ago....

They are a bit louder than stock and a lot better tone. Very 'Euro' sounding. Well worth the cost and effort IMO.

I'm lucky and my 95 has the air horns which sound very classic European. The 997 horn sounds like a generic any car horn. Don't know if its louder but it sure sounds a lot nicer (993).

I put the Hella air horns in my car and also my wife's Mini. If you have a small car... you need a big horn! IIRC, my local Autozone had the exact same horn set (compressor, relay, and 2 red trumpets) for less than the mail order places.

I guess I'm just a "le toot toot" kinda guy then. When I replaced my '87 Cab with the '97 Cab, I really missed my "le toot toot" horn.... and really reeeally hated the '97's "Buick Century" horn tone.
So, Gert fixed that.

You guys are right, the horn sounds like a Buick!! Thanks for the ideas...I may go over to Autozone and look at that one.
So do these higher output horns draw more current? I am wondering if they need a relay to switch a lead right from the battery. I don't think that they get used for very long but I would hate to blow a fuse just by using the horn....

I replaced mine a couple of years ago due to one one my original horns not working. Funny thing was I thought that was how all 993 horns sounded until I heard a friend of mines 993's horn. It's was like night and day. After that I bought the euro trumpet horns and I love them.

Also, good advise to everyone from Tex - if your trumpet horns sound like ***t, one of them may be inoperative. You can check them by pulling the RH headlamp bucket - another good reason to keep the slide out feature, IMO.
