Default To Paint or Not To Paint...Pictures...

Hey Guys,

I am installing some auxilary oil coolers and needed to make some additional space behind the front bumper. The solution was to remove the normal OEM grill (the slats) and replace it with some meshing. Originally, I was planning on fitting the parts and then painting them before finalizing the install, but I think the original silver color of the grills on the black bumper actually looks pretty cool.

So, what do you guys think - should I paint them or leave them as they are...

Thanks,

Skip

If it was me, I would paint them too.

I like the silver against black. On my white car and other light colors, the grill contrasts with the body color. Doesn't happen with dark colors stock but I think it looks good. It accentuates the grill openings.

I just happened to see one of the new Z cars today....It was done similar to what you propose. The car was black with the silver grill, I looked at it from several angles and it was interesting but it really wasn't my personal taste.

The bumper cover's easy enough to remove and replace......you can alway's pull it off and paint it sometime when your don't have anything else going on.

I just installed silver mesh on my TT bumper in Jan....car is dark green. I am on the fence w/ leaving the mesh silver or painting it black...sometimes it looks OK as is, other times looks a bit ricerish.. I worry about painting them black and then having the paint chip - I'll probably leave as is for now and replace it when I find some black octagon mesh (looks less rice than the diamond mesh).

Leave it unpainted, Skip. It looks better and will be less maintenance.

It would depend on how it looks with the whole package, color and type of wheels etc. I would leave it unpainted if it looked good with the wheels...I like the way it shows off the openings on a dark car. Just my $.02 worth.

Leave it silver or natural. It will just chip and look poor in no time.

BTW, where did you get that mess? How did you fasten it?

I have the same on my Guards Red car and I left it unpainted. It's really very subtle on a NB front bumper because the opening is sort of angled down. It's hard to notice, so much so that it's hard to capture in pictures. I left it silver because of chipping paint issues. It does not stay on very well in one corner. I think I'm gonna take it off.

I got mine at Fry's in the stereo section where they have Ricer accessories...cost was $10 or $20. Used $5 of black silicon to fasten it so all-in the project cost me less than $20.

Swftii,
I would leave them unpainted. The look is nice, and the fact that there will be no chipping issue is a BIG advantage.

I would leave it unpainted, reassemble everything, and then see how you like it for a couple of weeks. If you change your mind, you can always go back and paint it. I've been thinking about installing mesh and painting it a lighter color as well.

Skip..

Where did you get the mesh and what did you use to secure it to the bumper ??

I say leave it as is, nice contrast between the silver and black !!
