engine removal follow up and ignition cables
Hi gentlemen,
I'm cannot resist to post some news about the work I'm doing around my engine. The first spare parts I received were the seals for the distribution chain panels.
To access those panels, I had to remove the heat tube and the catalyser, discovering rust on the engine support. Sandblasting and repainting: it looks like new
You notice that one support of the heat tube is broken. I'll show you the solution I developed not to buy a new expensive one.
here you have a view of the distribution chain before I replace the seals
Then I replaced the seals on the lifters covers. I took a lot of care to remove the bolts. Some were very rusty, and 4 out of 38 were not easy to access. Just one needed a grip wise to be released. I took the opportunity to clean the covers, and replaced the bolts by stainless steel ones:
Then I removed the old power steering pump belt, cleaned the place and put a new one:
When I was finished with replacing the lifters covers, I had a little doubt on which spark plug cable was going where. But I discovered by cleaning them well, that beru has labelled them by cylinder : BERU 11-1; BERU 11-2; etc...
Nice to know!
Tomorrow I MUST, repeat MUST go shopping with my wife. So no work on the Porsche. I'll try to post another update next week.
Until then, I wish a very Merry Chrismas to you all and your families!
Cheers

As promised, here are a few pictures of how I replaced the broken support of the heat tube. It is made of stainless steel. On the pictures the new plate is placed below the heat protection (which will also be replaced), but I had to change that and put the heat protection with the new support on it. Otherwise you have problem with the rear engine cover when trying to place the heat tube correctly in position on the engine mount.
