Default How many guys use the 993 as a daily car? Is it practical?

Dear All,

I'm about to buy myself a 993, however, I will need to use it as a daily car. I've read many reviews from magazines, but i guess the best reviews are from 993 owners.

Magazines generally conclude that the 996 or boxster is much more practical as a daily car(comfortable ride, more predictable handling when raining and etc...). I love the 993 for its looks and performance, but i wanna buy a car that i'm gonna enjoy using for the next couple of years, and not get frustrated after a few months because its not practical to use it daily. I live in an area where it rains everyother week and road conditions are not the most ideal, except for the highway.

I would appreciate some advise.

Thank you.

I drive my 993 pretty much every day, and have no other car. I don't find it difficult at all to get along with on a daily basis.

I drive mine daily. 36k miles in 2.5 years, 20k of which were in the first year of ownership. Just stay on top of the routine maintenance, and you'll have no problems.

I drive mine at least 4 times a week too... maintenance is pretty limited to oil level and tire pressure on a recurring basis.

Try a search for "daily driver". I'm sure you'll find lots of threads.

I use mine as daily driver even in winter at NE
Best daily one ever for me

BY the way, I agree with looks but not sure about performance.

Be careful to be through before u make conclusion over 996 on performance.

For me, it was looks, classic, and many other but not performance.

I can walk towards my other car, even holding the keys, but I always take the 993.

My 993 is my daily driver - my 89 911 is the "weekend" car. Just too easy to driver the 993 and lots more fun. They love being driven and I think they run better with less problems (hence less maintance) the more you drive them. Enjoy!!

My 740i is the boringmobile. My 993 is Mr Funmobile. If it's not godawful weather outside I always take my 993! I'm a cable tv installer and salesperson and even do my cable tv installs out of the car, with the trunk holding my digital boxes, cable wire and toolbox.

Daily driver? No problem at all!!!

Ramses,

Every day, all year long. It's got snow tires on it now for winter.

I have a '01 Boxster S as my weekend car. The 993 is my daily driver. After a long hard day at work it is one thing to look forward to.

I drive mine every day, rain or shine. Unfortunately this results in a nearly constant coat of road crud... but it makes me actually look forward to my commute. I'm considering the vanity plate "drty993".

Every day as much as possible. Rain or shine. The more I drive it, the better it seems to run. Couple times a year a nice long trip. No golf clubs, but occasional groceries and a wife or child passenger. Very practical - saves on other forms of paid therapy. The happiest person is the child behind the wheel.

I have been driving 911s for over twenty years: 911 SC, two 993s. They were all daily drivers. Couldn't climb into anything else....
