Default Sport seats - how rare?

Searched the forum. Couldn't find any stats. DOes anyone know how rare the sport seat option is on a 97 carrera? Or in 993's overall?

I dont see many cars with them...

I have them and like them very much. Also think they look good. There is a black set on ebay right now, look great, big bucks. $4750 or something like that.

GT3 seats are something I would look into if I did not have the sport seats. ny comments from anyone else as to their comfort? Lumbar support at all?

Best of luck finding what you want.

That black set on ebay is quite nice with options most sport seats do not have -- full power, heat, and crests.

All sport seats offer the same electric up/down adjustment of the front and rear of the seat cushion. Most have the same manual forward/backward and recline adjustments as the stock seats. 99% of aftermarket sport seats do not offer any up/down adjustment, they're just bolted in and that's where they stay -- a distinct advantage to the factory sport seats.

They also feel pretty good (although to me the sport seats in the 997 feel MUCH better) and with the hard back and wider shoulder area make the 993 look more aggressive. The hardback is fairly unique and look very distinctive painted silver or body color. A couple of aftermarket seats are now available with that feature -- but only one hardback has the PORSCHE label displayed on it.

I assume we're talking about the expensive hardback sport seats. I just sold my 993 that had them. They look nice, but don't offer that much lateral support. Overall, definitely NOT worth a few thousand $$ like I hear they sell for, IMHO. BTW, they weigh 50 lbs each, which I thought was surprisingly heavy when I weighed one.

Not very many factory options that you could get for+/- $400 and then sell for $4000!

My 993 1994 has the older type of sportseats. The are very nice for street/sport driving and my wife loves them. I had them in my 964 Turbo as well. They fit me even better than the newer ones with hard backs.

For more feel and for street&trackdriving I do recomend the Recaro or Sparco seats. I love the Recaro seats in my 964 RS (the same as in 993 RS and GT1). It look great in a 964/993 and has a padding that can be removed to get lower in the seat during track events. I have now purchased a set to be installed in my car. See pictrure:

I have had Momo race-seats and driven cars on both street and track with Sparco Evo race-seats. I have also tried the 996 GT3 seats. I fit best in the RS seats. Next best thing is the Sparco Evo. I do like the look and feel of the GT3 seat but it is too wide for me. I do not feel it keeps me stuck during cornering. I am 1.79 cm and 85 kg = a normal fit Swede

You can not buy the genuine RS seats anymore but a close match is the Recaro "POLE POSITION in LEATHER"
For a "track only" car I like the Recaro SPG.

A timely post; I am attempting to buy a set as we speak. With any luck I can pick them up in a few weeks. After sitting in them I don't think they are for everyone. I am 6-2 165 and fit in them like a glove. I don't think someone with a large frame, stocky build, would be very comfortable in them. Like anything else, sit in them before you buy them.

Do the Porsche sport seats use the standard seat belts?

Wow- I like those Recaro leather pole positions. I've never seen those before. That's a good example of a seat that functions better, looks great, and is cheaper than the factory sport seats. Maybe they're not electric but are a lot lighter.

You need to know why you are buying seats. The leather pole positions do look great and would hold you well in a track situation but for a street car, the fantasy is probably better than the reality -- they would have to be a pain to get in and out of. You'd have to literally climb over those bolsters. Even the factory sport seats take some work and they aren't bolstered nearly as much.

But hey, whatever floats your boat.

For 95, there was a softback sport seat with tons of lateral support. Highly recommended!!!!
