Hi all,
Looks like I may be selling my '96 993 Targa. <28K miles, new PSS9's this year, new Michelin Pilot Sport tires, RSR's. Anyone have a feel for the value of the vehicle? All of your inputs are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dennis
993 Targa is very rare (about 1100 cars total from 1996 to 1998 in US according to European Car Magazine) and there are not a lot of sales out there for comparison. I'm guessing US$ 40000 to 45000. Probably will get higher price when selling in spring and summer when the weather is nicer and people looking for more sun exposure. Good Luck.
Just paid $34,000 for a '96 Targa with 43k miles. Also had new OEM wheels which sell new for $4000 + tires. Included were the original Targa wheels. CA car.
I think I got a good, not fantasic, deal. I just replaced the clutch. Othewise the car is tiptop.
Good luck. Try something in the $40k range during the spring.
Targa values are all over the place b/c it is a smaller market.
Id also wait until spring and sunshine. Sell the car as a prestine car street car - most targa buyers are not going to pay for track mods b/c most track people would want a c2 instead at this point. I would hold out for a good price in May since there will be someone who will really appreciate the targa - it is just not the first guy to come along.
I would think unless your car is low mileage and great condition, you won't get $45K for it stock or modded [unless you meet the really right person]...my guess would be high 30s to 40K [again, unless you have very low mileage]. As for the mods, let me know if you do get rid of the car b/c I would be interested in the PSS9s. Why are you selling it when you just put that expensive suspension on it out of curiosity?
If anyone has the recent copy of Excellence Magazine, there is a market analysis of the 993s. There was also a letter and a Bruce Anderson response regarding issues relating to 993 targa operating issues (leaks, etc.) which you may find interesting. I think $40,000 is on the high end. Mid to high $30s seem more in line.
I'm an idiot and didn't realize the mileage posted.....with less than 28,000 Miles, $40-45K is probably about right assuming that the car is in good running order and cosmetic condition with no stories...that said, let me know if you do sell b/c I'd be interested in the PSS9s Sorry to hear that you have to part with your baby, but hopefully later down the road that will mean another 993 in the garage and you can start all over with the mods again!
...As far as the Bruce Anderson thing, read the thread that discusses that issue--seems that he typically grossly undervalues 993s according to the opinion of many on this board...
my $.01 [I used up the other cent on my previous post by not looking at the mileage posted]
I hope this helps. I purchased my 96' Targa with 23,500 miles about 10 weeks ago and paid $41,600. The car had one previous owner and was kept perfect inside and out. I also live in Tampa and the geographical location did play a part in the price. I searched for 8 months for this car and based on the condition and mileage, I felt good about the purchase.
so you're the one who took the targa in tampa. i tried contacting the seller and when he finally got back to me, he said he had already sold it to his neighbor.
I'm going to put mine on the market as well this Spring. '98 Targa with 16k miles, 6spd, Silver/Black, nice options plus 18" Sport Classics, H&R Coilovers, rest stock, 30k service done (I'm ****), immaculate condition inside & out!
I'm thinking low $50's to high $40's. Some will think that's optimistic, but I guess we'll see......
As a reference point, you can look at http://www.europeanlocators.com, they are in Framingham Mass (ie. Boston Market) and he has a 96 well optioned white Targa with 62k miles for 42k OBO. Given this data point, Assuming no accidents, great condition of your car low 40's is reasonable for your car given the low mileage, sought after color, and the time of year. You may need to take a bit less because of the time of year but you need to weigh that against storage costs (assuming you don't have the space to store it for the winter) and the fact that in may/june it will be 5 months older.
I would think the mods you did probably won't increase the value of the car to someone interested in a targa.
I got my 97 Targa with 12k miles (stock) last fall for a bit less than that but it was also not in prime summer season.
I believe the number of units referenced by Targa Tim includes US & Canada for the time these were built. I also recall some posts about the 98's having a modification to improve the taerga top mechanism. If that is true, it could make the 98 targa's be the desired one's of the lot.
