Default Driver height - comfort

Just was wondering....In my search for a 993 I've actually only driven two. What I've found is that there is a dramatic difference in leg room between my 928 and the 993. I think there's no question the 928 would be better suited for me on long trips since I can strech my legs. I'm about six one. How tall are most of you guys/ladies driving these cars on a daily basis, and are there any ways to get a bit more leg room?

The seats in my car were somehow moved back a bit. I don't push the seat back that far but this was done to accomodate the prior owner who wat 6'4" or so. I'm 6'1" and have no problems with legroom. In fact, I don't like my legs to be too stretched out as it makes it difficult to clutch. The think I noticed about the seat is how low it is. Feels like you are on the ground and makes other cars feel like 18 wheelers.

I'm 6'2" and find that all the way back is enough room. However, something I learned when I chipped my car is that you can adjust the seat position on the rails. The holes are already there and you can just unbolt it and use the other holes. From memory of the rails, I think this would give you at least another inch or so in seat position which is a lot really.

I'm 6'-1" also and the leg room is fine. I drove her home on a 1500 mile trip and was quite comfortable. The one improvement I would like to see is an adjustable wheel. For me when the leg room is right the steering wheel seems to be a reach.

I'm 6-1 as well, but more of my height is in the upper body. I have no trouble with legroom at all, but I just barely make it headroom-wise with the full power seat. It seemed to me that when I test drove a 993 with the 1/2 power seat I had a bit more headroom. I don't know if that's just a subjective impression or not, but it might be something to be aware of. Good luck with your search ... any excuse to look at and drive multiple Porsches is a good one!

The guys (gals ) with the most problem from what I gather are tall people with long torsos. I'm shorter of torso but 6'3" and fits me great. I did like the hole position change that Pedro mentioned, interesting.

One 993 I looked at before I bought mine had the passenger seat moved up and a stop put in so it wouldn't move off track when it was moved back. He said it was common for them to jump the tracks but I've never heard of it happening other than on his car.

i'm 6'3" plus....the floor and wheelwell design leaves me never with enough space to stretch my left leg out while staying close enough to operate the off-centered pedals.
combine that with a bad back and it just ain't comfortable enough.

Nevertheless, the car is GREAT!

I've got a different seat in there for now which is an improvement for me. at 6'1", you should be fine.

speak to fred fisher ... @ 6'8" (pretty sure) he simply moved the driver's seat bracket back & matched it to existing holes.

no problemo.

I'm 6'4", and have sports seats, which take up a bit more space. No problems at all, even on long journeys.

I think a key is to get the base up at the front and down at the back - keeps your legs fully supported.

That's exactly what I did when I installed my non-adjustable GT3 seats and needed more headroom with a helmet on. I added thick washers under the front rails, tilting the seat back, and secured it with longer allen bolts. It's not a huge difference, but it helps keep my head from being jammed against the roof. A tricker set up would be to use some aluminum stock that was the exact needed thickness instead of four to five washers.

Somewhat of a hijack here, but has anyone ever moved the seat rails, either driver or passenger? My second half doesn't have enough legroom (passenger side) in the 993. She loved the legroom in the 951, but we're not even going back there again. I love my 4th 911!

6'2" w/ 34" inseem and no probs here. I mount the driver's seat using the rear mounts (which does add about 1.5" and it made a huge difference for me. I either drive in the last or second to last notch.

Gotta love these cars...

David and 2ndof2

As mentioned above there is a second set of predrilled holes for the seats about 1" behind the standard holes. I'm 6'2 and the change was much more noticible then I thought it would be. The 993 will never compare to the sharks and 944 series for leg room and complete comfort. Then again, my old 944 was the first-and only-car in my life in which I had to move the seat up! I have not found the 993 uncomfortable on long (9 hour top) drives. And boy is it fun to drive.
