Also, re: insurance. When I was tentatively pricing coverage on a GT3, 996 turbo, and 993 turbo a few months ago......verdict was 993 turbo was about 1/2 the others. I get the C4S and guess what? Same premium as a 993 turbo!

For those of you that indicated they were in the market... I am aware of what appears to be a very nice white 97 C2S..about 31K miles...factory aero kit...nice mods..located in SOCAL for about $50K... Pm me for info

I hadn't noticed that prices were climbing. I thought that everyone's fears over the valve guide issue was driving prices down. Luckily, I just had service done, and apparently my car is not showing any issues. My SAI valve was corroded, but the lines were not plugged up. whew!

I was thinking about selling my 993, only for the reason that my wife refuses to drive a manual (our Boxster had tip), and I don't want a 993 w/ a 4-speed. (Then, on the other hand, you look at a 996 w/a 5-speed tip, while more hp, and reasonably priced, you start having nightmares over the RMS issue). Of course, getting a good feel for what a daily driver C4 cab with 80K miles is difficult, since I don't see many.

I helped a colleague get a 96 C4S, midnight blue / grey leather, 30K miles, from High Marques in Morristown for $46.5K - he had previously been looking at cars with nearly 50K miles for more money.

The 993 will always special as the last aircooled one... I thought the values would remain stable as long as the 996 was out, since it wasn't all that pretty (C4s excepted), and fall once the "pretty" 997 was out, I don't understand why the 993 remains on a bubble like that... I am biaised, I want a 993 too but they're not going down !! ;-( Maybe that is because I am not alone in waiting ;-)

BTW, I have observed that the prices are going down on the previously top-dollar cars. There are deals out there folks. Looking at Sloan cars or RPM is sure not going to get you great deal on a Porsche. There is a very narrow market for extrmely low mile garage queens sought after by collectors. The prices on those cars will always be high because money is not as much an issue for those buyers/ sellers. I will get off my soapbox now.

The reason prices are not going down is because with every iteration it becomes more obvious that the 993 was the best car Porsche ever made. Perhaps ever will.

Wow! Now that was a discussion. I bought by '97 Guards red C2S with 29,000 miles last August for $46900. I could have bought a 2 year newer 996, but it just didn't talk to me like the 993. 1 owner, all records, PPI and it even passes emissions!
Nice to know my favorite car ever is appreciating! Makes the ownership experience even better. I did buy a '84 300SD Mercedes for $2500 for a daily driver for work and to keep the miles off of the Porsche, and it's even red to match!

Randy I love it when you talk like that, couldn't agree more. I've looked at them for years and never saw a better Pcar than the 993.

I just replaced our artic white 97 993 cab with 40,526 miles, due to an unfortunate incident which I still can't talk about, with a 96 arena red cab with 38,659 miles on it and we paid about $2,000 more for it than the white one. The new one needed a new top and a new clutch as well but it is in very good shape otherwise.


The scary thing is that Mercury Insurance has a problem with the current pricing of 993s and refused to believe the current prices THEY found so we had to come out of pocket a bit.

But the 993 is the ultimate Porsche because it is the last Porsche with a soul.

This would be useful information if we knew how much you paid for the white one. Otherwise, it's almost meaningless. Do tell.

i say the 2 WD 993s hold there values best relative to there original sticker price because they were lower priced to begin with and tended to have fewer options. being in a lower price range opens you up to more buyers and fewer options means less lost at resale since options dont bring you back your money very well.

the turbos on the other hand cost mostly over 100K new and many had more options added on top of that. this puts them in a more expensive marked as used cars as well and there are fewer people that can or will spend the extra money. there is also the issue of the turbo being seen as a car that may have been used harder and that if it breaks it is more costly to fix.

the 4S is in the middle i would say in terms of its resale relative to sicker.

as far as a general price trend dont forget it is going into the prime season for car buying and the raise that has been talked about may be seasonal to some extent. also i think the initial hype of the 997 cars may have dented the 993 prices for a while but now that the cars are actually on the streets we see that they are nice but not as killer nice as our cars were when they first came out. so this firms up the 993's a bit again. i know i was thinking prhaps i should sell my 993 before the bubble broke when i heard about the 997. but now am glad to have one.

in general all the variations of the 993 are holding there values wellrelative to other cars of there era. it will be interesting in 20 years to see what has happened to the 993. will it be somewhat like the muscle car in that there will never be a time when the cars will be like that again (muscle cars due to goverment regulations, gas prices and insurance all @ same time) and 993's also due to goverment regulations (emissions that didnt favor air cooled).

i wouldnt think the 993 would be as strong as the muscle car but there may be a smaller but similar situation. it is kindof the end of a special era that will never return.

but what do we do when are cars are old enough to be old but not old enough to be classics? does the rest of the world care that the 993 is the last aircooled porsche? will we not switch tothe water cooled cars sooner or later? as that happens wont the 993 prices go down untill or if they become sought after classics

i look every day for something to replace the 993 and havent as yet found anything that works for me but the fact that i am looking means something i think, as that wasnt even a thought a few years ago
