3 spoke steering wheel for the 993....?
I'm about to take possession of a '96 C4S... and I'm more than a bit excited. It'll be my 4th Porsche and the first since '89.
But, I'm sorta put off with the "4 spoke" steering wheel. I've seen a 3 spoke wheel.... somewhere.... and I like it a great deal.
My questions are.... can this 'conversion' be done easily? And, where do I found sucha wheel? And, what's the cost of the wheel and the conversion... and no, I don't DIY.
I just think the "3-spoker" looks waaaaaaay better then this flat, anemic, inflatable deal. What do you think?
TIA BAGGER

Baggerdude... graham_mitchell is right, do a search and you will have more than enough info. I am not a DIY kinda guy. However, I did this swap with little effort. It is very easy. And I agree, it is a great change.

Its really very simple. Unhook the battery let sit 20 minutes and replace. That easy. Just mark you position.

Great to have another Rennlister with a wonderful example of a sports car! Welcome!
I see that you'll fit right in here as you are planning mods BEFORE taking delivery of your car
Good job!!

Welcome to the board. I did this and it is a great upgrade. Very easy-but you will need a long torx to get to the steering wheel bolts. It feels a lot better than the four spoke wheel and gives a better view of the instruments.

I have a nearly-new 3-spoke wheel (no airbag) for sale... $160 + shipping.

Hey, don't knock the ultra comfortable, free 4 spoke steering wheel that comes with the car! I had considered switching too to the 996 wheel or the AJ USA thickly bolstered wheel but some had said that after they switched, they actually found the old 4 spoker just as comfortable if not more comfortable than their new wheel. Saved me $600 that I shouldn't have been spending anyway! This route probably isn't something you're considering, seeing that you're on the warpath to get a 3 spoker, but it's food for thought. You might want to at least live with the sweet OEM wheel for a week or so before you decide.
Lovin' having the extra $600 in my pocket, and just used less than half that for a new AJ USA pedal set track style and the matching aluminum left footrest ($222 delivered).
My probably unwanted 2 cents.

I don't think anyone is changing to a three spoke wheel to find more comfort (whatever that means).
They change out the four-spoke because it's freakin' ugly!!

Got to agree with Max on this one. One of my first mods was a new 3 spoke leather wheel with leather airbag. The comfort of the 4 spoke was good, I just thought the 3 was a better looking wheel. I was fortunate to find a new take off for $500 and sold my 4 spoke for $200...net cost, $300. Max, thanks for the photos on Mullholland!
