I just got a 3 spoke steering wheel for my tip 993, and I would like to do the mod myself. Problem is I am not mecahnically inclined, but I've heard this is easy to do. If anyone has done this ( and I know many of you have) can you please send any info on how to go about it. I have this fear of the airbag going off because I crossed wires or something!!
Thanks for any help.

you can't cross the wires to the air bag -- there is only one (yellow) connector to it. Disconnect the battery for at least 20 minutes before removing airbag ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
the 'search' function should find you the rest of the details .....
good luck,

I really is pretty easy...there is a ton of info here about it but I just did the conversion this spring so I will post what I know. Feel free to add to this.
Disconnect battery for at least 20 minutes.
Remove Torx screws in rear of air bag. Use 2" long T30 Torx. (I have one in anybody in Seattle neads one)
Unplug airbag wire and remove airbag.
Unbolt nut holding steering wheel.
Replace streering wheel and torque nut.
plug in airbag and torque torx screws.
Enjoy!

OK, I've got the airbag off. What did you guys use to remove the bolt on the steering wheel??
I must be a girlyman, I can't even budge it. Is there something I'm missing??

I sure the big socket has a 1/2" drive so it must have been a 14" or so long 1/2" breaker bar. It came off pretty easy and I didn't have to reef on it at all. I cannot remember the torque requirements. You can get pretty good leverage holding onto the steering wheel.
Good Luck!

Thanks to all for the help!!!
I finally finished the install. Bruce, you were right, I went to Sear and got an 18" long 1/2" drive bar, and the nut didn't stand a chance. Of course, I took it out for the required 20 minute drive to see how much faster it is with the new wheel. Much better!!
Paul, I bought the wheel from Ebay, and the airbag from Suncoast Porsche on the West coast of Florida. Tell them you are from Rennlist and they give you a realy good discount. I think I saved over $130.00 over the local P car dealership here in South Florida just on the bag.

I also got mine from eBay. Do a search for "Porsche Steering Wheel" and you will find 3 spoke wheels there a lot. For a tipronic wheel expect to pay from $100 to $135. Non Tiptronic wheel are a tad more. The air bag are a pain to find used and you may just buy new like fjp.
