Okay Folks, Eric just left my house after dropping off my very own set of Catz HID lights for my wifes new ML. THe kit is very professional looking with good connectors and hardware. Eric was a pleasure and spent about 30 minutes looking at the headlights with me and explaining exactly how the kit goes together. You should have no worries - it is a professional kit that will be easy to install in the 993. I would imagine the two boxes per side will go behind the light asemblys with double sided tape without a problem.

Have fun.

I just received my Catz HID kit today. Probably will not have time to install it until this weekend unfortunately!

Any new updates on the install procedure? This thread has become cumbersome to read.

Unlike traditional velcro, there are not two sides for hooks-and-loops; rather, the stuff comes in one type of strip that clicks into itself. I wish I knew what the name is but the stuff works much better than velcro and is backed with a super-strong adhesive. For medium-duty applications, it works wonderfully.

Radio Shack and Home Depot sell it.

There are so many pages on this I hope someone gets to my post!
For $380 I'm in for a set of 4500k. Not sure who I need to e-mail as I ran out of time before I could look at the 16 pages here... but if anyone could reply here or even e-mail me what the next step is that would be great.
thanks,

All,

I wanted to let you know that I have just finished the installation tonight. It took about 2 hours, but I'm not an experienced DIYer and I am quite particular about making changes to my car --> try to avoid any chance of rattling, things not staying in place, etc.

Chris is right, the installation is very easy and just takes a little time.

On the driver's side I stashed the Igniter and Ballast similar to Chris. On the passenger's side I wedged the Igniter like Chris, but I kept the Ballast in the light well and used a zip tie to mount it on the left outside of the light bracket slide (hard to explain and I'm not taking it out to take a picture - I had the same adjustment challenge with the light socket and it took a little while to get it aligned again and was a little frustrating).

I took some pictures of the OEM lights and then the HIDs and they don't show the increase in brightness that the eye can see. Looking at the lights, they are a lot brighter. I haven't driven on a dark road in a while, but am sure they will be significantly better.

Just thought I would share...and now it is time for a

PS - Chris, thanks again for the DIY instructions they were perfect and really made the install as easy as it was.

E.J. and Eric,

Yes, that sure IS the stuff. I have it on the dash of my truck and on the back of my cell phone so I can just whack the phone up there. Very positive grip.

I finished my install today with a friend as well. Everything went pretty smoothly following Chris' DIY. I just took extra time trying to decide where to place the ballast. I'll need more velcro, got to run to the store tomorrow.

Overall, I am very happy with the much brighter improvement. But I must admit, the parking lights just look silly now. I might have to try John W.'s suggestion for changing that 4 watt bulb to a 10 watter, or turn on the fog lights.

Guys,

By the way, the fastener material is generically called "mushroom head fastener" as opposed to the velcro "hook and loop" product we're all familiar with.

3M makes it, its called "Dual-Lock". If you can't find it, you can order it from McMaster-Carr online. Page # 3179 of their catalog. I would suggest the super adhesive selection. You can order 5' lengths in clear and black.
