HID GROUP BUY
#211
Dan,
What I am really interested in is "matching" the litronics and the position lights underneath. The lights on the car now are so yellow underneath the HID's I think it looks really crummy. I live in SoCal with very little fog and I rarely use the fog lights. Any suggestions?

I have exactly the same issue with my car so have just purchased the Turbo S air ducts with positioning lights from Gert. They should tidy it up very nicely.

Tim,
I think the problem is more with the color/lack of brightness of the bulb; is it possible to switch out the bulb to a HID or similar?
I am happy with the appearance of my bumper/air ducts, I think.

surely you guys are talking about the SIDELIGHTS, not fog lights....
The answer here is to fit 10w MCC bulbs, of the same fit as the original sidelight.
these are small halogen bulbs used on BMWs etc.
I found the first set in a car shop, and they were made by RING.
I bought several sets after that for other people.
They take the sidelights (maybe they are called driving or running lights in the US ?) from what looks like a candle to something that resembles a whiteish light. Much better IMO.
FYI I bought the bulbs from RS (www.rs.com).
Stuart, why not buy the Autolamps setup ??
Or is the price the issue.
Not wishing to detract from Liteswap, but at least Autolamps are in the UK.
If you want to see cars with these lights fitted, there should be a few of us at the meet next week to give you a demo <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
Cheers,
John.

There seems to be some confusion about which lights you wish to change.
In a stock 993 (other than a tt S) below the headlight is a combination light that houses 2 lights: a foglight w/a 55W H3 halogen bulb and a positioning/parking/side light w/a small 4W bulb.
My prior answer assumed you want to convert the H3 foglight to HID. If that's the case, and your goal is to match the color, you can buy relatively low cost H3 "tinted" bulbs (from Eric, I believe) that will have the look of HID. Converting the fogs to HID, IMO, doesn't make much sense for several reasons.

To follow on Dan's comments, if you want to change your foglight to driving lights (I THINK)you will have to: (i) swap to TT-S vents, then (ii) swap the TT-S positioning lights to driving lights from PIAA or some other brand. The factory plastic lens will not allow you to effectively modify the foglights to driving lights as the light pattern is too diffused. The TT-S vent is approx $250 in addition to the price of the PIAAs.
I have not heard of anyone replacing the entire factory combination light with a similarly sized rectangular driving light but that could be another option if you can find one with the right dimension. This would probably be less costly than going with the TT-S vents.

Shipping to UK requires air. There is no UPS Ground to UK
If you goto UPS.com and use their rate calculator you will see that the cheapest is about $86
If you goto USPS, the cheapest is $41.75 (trackable means w/ insurance). We cannot ship USPS due to lost package concerns. If someone else wants to forward the package for you, that is up to you.
As far as the fogs go, you could buy a "tinted" bulb to achieve the color. The HID fogs are kind of neat though and would light up the area directly in front of your car fully while the HID headlights shined further.

I guess I led you guys astray. All I want is for the light underneath the headlight to look bright, close to what the headlights look like. The lights there now look like they came off a Model T brightness-wise.
I went out and looked at the light I am talking about and there is no screw to get the plastic thing off to get at the bulb (in distinction to the yellow side light which has a screw laterally) so I am sure changing the bulb will just be a wonderful experience...
Thanks for your help.

Burning Brakes
Eric, I just shipped a 5 lb package to Germany from Ohio for $22 (4-10) day delivery using the United States Postal Service.
The package measured 18" x 18" x 24"
0.02

993, It has to be sent via trackable means.. which means no parcel post. It has to be sent Global Express Mail. So that, along with insurance will bring it close to $40
But we cannot send USPS.. they tend to lose packages.

Mark,
I believe you are referring to the fog lights - just below the headlights and slightly toward the center - see pic below.
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Lights.jpg" alt=" - " />
The removal instructions should be in the owners manual - I believe the screws that secure it are hidden behind the bumperettes.
Once the HIDs are installed, if the light looks too yellow I'm going to buy the right bulb from liteswap so the fogs will look similar to the HIDs, but am not going to do a HID conversion. I think the bulb is the Catz 4100k Halogen Bulb (H3).
Let me know if you do this, otherwise I'll let you know when I do it.

This really isn't rocket science.
1. As Ray would say: Turn off your computer & open your owner's manual to the page w/the simple instructions for the 5 min. removal of the fog light assembly. In case that's a chore - pry out the rectangular piece at the front of the bumperette w/a small screwdriver, remove the 2 small metric nuts (size ?? - maybe 5mm), remove the bumperette, unscrew the 1 screw holding the foglight & remove the light. Look at the back - you'll see the 4W bulb plug in & the fog is inside the access door.
2. If what upsets you is the 4W peanut sized "sidelight" bulb (vs the 55W foglight that lights when the foglight switch is pulled to the on position), I'd suggest removing the bulb & throwing it in a drawer. It doesn't serve any useful purpose anyway & you will NEVER be able to replace it w/anything close to the brightness of your headlights.
3. If what upsets you is the foglight, re-read the earlier posts answering your question.

I decided to also get in on this offer and have purchased a kit. I would like to know if anyone else in my area will also be installing these lights. If so I would love to watch an install, seing that I got in late I do not expect to see my kit until April.

Cheers,
John.
