Does anyone know why my brakes now squeal all the time under light load? Ever since a track day a couple of weeks ago this has been happening.
Did I bake the pads or disks? Do you think it'll go away or do I have to live with it until a get a new set?
thanks,
Wayne

Wayne,
chances are they are just full of brake dust.
Take the pads out and give them and the calipers a good clean.
I forget how the anti squal bits on the 993 go now, but a bit of 'copper grease' on the rear of the pads will help.
I doubt that you've killed your brakes, unless you now get brake judder (warped discs) or have taken the pads through to the metal.
Give them a clean and see if it helps![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Cheers,

Wayne,
Next time you wash your car, try hosing out the rotors. Hold the hose right next to the rotors and spray through the holes. You'll be amazed at how much brake dust comes out. Keep spraying until the water is clear. If you're picky, roll the car a few inches so that you can spray the area under the calipers. After this, take the car for a drive, and use the brakes enough to heat up the rotors so that they dry thoroughly. Otherwise, they’ll rust. I do this every time I wash my car and I don’t have any squealing problems at all.

My brakes used to squeal horribly (only under light pressure) too. No amount of rinsing or washing had any effect. I changed the pads and removed the anti-squeal devices that fit into the pistons. When I changed them I found no obvious reason for the noise (no cracks, etc and plenty of wear left). Since the change I am squeal free.

Before my dad bought his '96 C4S, the pads were changed and maybe even the rotors too. Ever since then, they've squeaked. The noise has died down after a year, but there is still noticble squeaking when breaking lightly. Is there any simple and easy way to get rid of this?

I agree w/ John. My brakes used to squeal, until I started washing the rotors and also between pad and rotor whenever I wash the car. Make sure to drive the car after, otherwise the rust will cause squeeling.
