Does this happen often?
This weekend my wife and I were coming back from Sunday brunch along I-36 south of Boulder.
She was just tooling along at 62 mph in the slow lane (posted speed limit 65) when a Colorado State Patrol car cruised up beside us, then slipped behind and pulled us over!
The officer said he stopped us for two reasons.
First was no front license plate (I guessed that one) but I couldn't think of the other reason. Brake light maybe? Well these were his exact words...
"The second reason I pulled you over is that you are driving my dream car. Is this a 96 or 97?"
He said he is currently looking for a C4S.
I was going to ask him if he would like to see how fast we coud get back up to 65 mph from zero but clearer heads prevailed. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />
Nice guy though, only gave a verbal on the license plate (probably understood how it ruins the lines of the car)

I, too, drive without a front license plate in Colorado (and it seems a lot of us do here).
Anyway, I've had a couple friendly law enforcement personnel point to the front of my car to let me know they noticed, but no one has stoped me yet.
Have fun and don't ruin those 'lines'.

Early evening had set in after several hours of TLC to the 993 one Saturday. Wareing a crummy T-shirt, cut offs and a baseball cap on backwards I go a quick spin.... Bingo! A cruiser passes, swings a U-ee and pulls me over. The first words were a clear demand, "are you the owner of this car?" Profiling?
I first thought of the front plate ommision too as the cause for the stop. The plate isuue was never mentioned and I was outta there.

This happened back in the days of the mandatory 55MPH speed limit. Was in my '76 911S, going along at about 65-70 on the PA Tpke around Harrisburg. Didn't notice a state cop behind me. Well, shortly after passing a slower vehicle his lights came on and he pulled me over. He came over to my car and said "Now, look - I don't care if you're doing 65. But - you see that car back there that you passed? Well, that's a PA Government official car. So, I'm pulling you over just to make it look good!". He then said "nice car", and we went our separate ways.
There I was, in traffic, middle lane, tooling north on the NJTPKE. I pass a trooper writing up
someone on the shoulder. Miles later I see the cruiser in the left lane and he tucks in behind me, hits the lights and the fun begins. The trooper informs me that my window tinting is illegal and that he's writing me up for no front plate($44). I smile, say thank you. 1 out of 2 isn't bad. Now, if this works when I'm going 65+, it might not be such a bad deal.

I got pulled over a couple of months ago because my spoiler was up! It was a 45MPH zone. I was probably going a bit over that, but not much, as there was too much traffic. I was weaving a bit, just to get around those trucks going 30 in the left lane and to get in the shortest line at the signal. When he pulled me over, he pointed to the spoiler (which was still up because I had hit the spoiler switch) and said “What speed does that go up? 55?” I said “No, it goes up around 45 or so, but I hit the override button so it doesn’t go up and down at every signal I come to.” He proceeded to lecture me about all the lane changing I was doing, and I tried to explain it like I said above. I got away with a warning. He was pretty cool about the whole thing, said he could understand with the car I have, etc. Since I wasn’t really speeding, I don’t think he would have even pulled me over except for his belief that the spoiler goes up at 55.
Oh yeah, either he didn't notice or chose to ignore my missing front plate.

About 5 years ago, I was in my old C2 which had rollcage, seats with 5 point belts, stiff as a rock ride with Kumhos. As I was going to KFC for some takeout, I went a bit fast to ran a yellow light, 50 plus in a 40 zone, a cop that came from the other direction made a U-turn and pulled me over in the KFC parking lot.
I knew I was a bit fast but was more worry about the modifications of the car(no OEM seatbelts)and the no tread Kumhos.
He came over and I spoke first: Sorry officer, I was a bit fast on the intersection...
He smiled and said: No, you were ok and that's not why I stop you. Then I thought, great here we go. He's going to impound the car and the tow truck is goint to messed up my car.
He put his hands by the driver side window and checking out the inside of the car still smiling and asked me: DO you know (name)?
I replied: (name)? yes, I was doing a DE with him last month at TWS, you know him?
He said: Yeah, we grew up together. Can this thing beat his car?
I said: No, he has a turbo(993tt) there is NOWAY this car can stay with him.
He than asked: Man, I want to find a car that can kick his ***, how fast have you gone with this car?
I said: At TWS I did 135 on the front straight, (name) was problebly going 150.
He laught and said: Well next time you see (name) tell him his buddy Joe wants the diapers for the twins he promised, OK?
I said: Yeah, sure, of course...
Then he walked back to his car and left...
