Post Paintless Dent Repair (Long)

My Factory bra came off the car at 90mph (on the track) last winter. In the melee, the bra flapped around and beat several small dents/dings into the left rear fender . I have been living with the dents but they bothered me everytime I drove the car. I took the car over to my local (70 miles away) body shop, Deshler's in Orange, and asked what they would recommend. The owner, Tim Deshler, said, no problem...bring it by on Monday, for Paintless Dent (Ding) Repair. Tim also managed to find a small dent on either door as well as a dent in the hood from unknown contents (an air bottle?)going vertical after encountering a large bump in the road. For a small fee, less than $300, all dings were removed, and some undetectable touch up paint applied.

You may wonder, what is Paintless Dent (Ding) Repair? From the following web site I "borrowed" the information on the science. Keeping within Rennlist policy on commercials, the following web site is informational only!

<a href="http://www.paintlessrepair.com/what_is_paintless_dent_repair.htm" target="_blank">http://www.paintlessrepair.com/what_is_paintless_dent_repair.htm</a>

How Does Paintless Dent Repair Work? To perform a paintless dent repair, a skilled technician uses metal rods and picks to massage out minor dings and dents in the finish of an automobile. To perform this, a technician will work on the dent from the inside of the panel. In simpler terms, the ding or dent is pushed out. Average repairs usually only take 10 – 20 minutes, from start to finish (for an experienced technician).

It works fellow Rennlisters...my car is now dingless/dentless, and I love it ! <img src="graemlins/a_smil17.gif" border="0" alt="[blabla]" />

I couldn't agree MORE! 3 weeks ago a lady backed into my car and crushed the left front fender just behind the wheel.

Fortunately, there were no creases and the plastic bumper on her Camry didn't put any deep scratches in my paint. But, it was pushed in about 1" and had a nice 8"x10" dent running from the fender seam to the fender lip behind the wheel.

I took the car for estimates. One shop said they would remove the fender, repair the dents, add filler (Bondo?) replace and repaint everything. $2200 estimate.

Another shop said they would simply replace the fender with a new one, and paint everything good as new. $2400 estimate.

I used paintless dent removal (PDR) on my Honda Accord about a year ago and was amazed with the results so I took my P-car to the PDR guys. They said they could get it 95% perfect in about 4 hours. $400 estimate.

Well, I took it to the PDR guys and they spent a full 8 hours on the car. They treated my car better than the local P-car dealer (not saying much there...). Their idea of 95% is closer to 100% for me. I couldn't be happier with the work and my car still has all original paint. They buffed out all the scratches and there is almost no sign of the original damage.

The insurance company sent me a large check and I'm happy to say that only $400 was required to repair the car to my satisfaction. The rest of the money is being invested in Kumho's and track time!

I'll post before and after pic's this weekend.

Wow that's nice Matt.

Btw may I know the contact number of that PDR? Perhaps they can do some repair on my fiancee's car (similar accident as yours).

Pin,

Since we can't give product or service provider names on the board anymore, I'll send you an e-mail.

I'll chime in w. a general endorsement of no-paint dent removal. The one ding I've gotten (touch wood) on the p-car was a vicious one right on the sweet curve of the front fender lip, directly over the wheel center.

Took my wife's car to the local guys first as a test and they did great! Turned the p-car over, and they worked the same magic. Best value I've ever had from work on a car!

I must confess, there are no before and after pics...I was so impressed with the PDR, I had them paint and install my 993RS splitters. I will post pics of the results of that job this weekend.

Isn't it funny that the key entries in my address book are: Porsche Mechanic, my world class body shop for PDR and paining little things like front splitters and 993RS tails, Detail Shop for those times when I am too lazy to detail the car, Gert's WWW site/phone number, Robin Sun's web site and number...what else do I need? Perhaps haircut place (We used to call them Barber Shops), dentist and physician, and of course my Kumho dealer!!! And let's not forget Rennlist, and Viken. Life is good!

Thumbs up

Just had two dings taken out of my 996 this a.m. by a PDR-type place here in Houston. Awesome job, ten minutes flat, $100 cash. Highly recommended.

Owning 5 cars (2 teenage drivers), we have the need for ding repair often. I fully endorse the dent/ding repair (generic of course). I take my cars in once/2 years or when I have to sell one and they come back looking like new and with little cost.
