So the car's always had some weirdness in the clutch pedal -- sometimes engagement wasn't very consistent, and other times it wouldn't return to the top. A new kinematic clutch lever fixed that today. What a difference -- the clutch take up feels like a Honda's now

It's amazing difference. So many avoid actually doing the change but solves so many problems.

I put on some mismatched wheels because that 2004 drift car hotboi aesthetic is still near and dear to my heart. Shoot me a message if you want either a full set of polished 18x9/11 E88s or TE37 haha

oh man totally forgot about this thread but here's a photo from late last year with the mismatch wheel setup:

(also, if you're curious, the side windows are tinted with formulaone stratos 70, which is very blue)

got rid of the wheels, cause i needed the cash, but ended up washing the car for maybe the second time since i've owned it?

back on solid-spoke turbo twists

since then, the original starter failed, so i had a 996 GT3 bosch jam put in --
Amazon Amazon
-- fit well, cheap, fires up the car faster, worthwhile upgrade.

next steps: buy weird wheels again, then i need a new front windshield because whomever put the current one in didn't do such a great job and it leaks lmao

You don't need a new screen - you just need to refit the one you have. Glass doesn't leak lmao.

I think @cheez80 has aftermarket Fuyao glass on the car. I was told by my windshield installer that 993 windshields, aside from being a PITA to fit properly, have slight variations in curvature / fit / etc that are often the cause of installation headaches.... his comment for was Porsche-sourced glass (SIGLA / Pilkington with the Porsche "P" stamp) and quadruply so for aftermarket glass.

For what it is worth, I recently had new Porsche-sourced Pilkington glass fitted to my 993. The windshield was $1200 + tax from the dealer, and the labor to fit it was $600 from a 911 aircooled specialist shop, taking two days (24 hours to bake + cure before driving/vibrations and fitting the exterior rubber seal). That labor charge was with me removing the interior dash top beforehand.

Contrast this with a quote that I got from a local generic glass installer - $450 including labor using either XYG or Fuyao glass, taking only a few hours. What a difference!

Why would you need to remove the dashtop beforehand? Porsche (when they knew what they were doing on the 993 back in the day) didn't remove the dashtop to fit a new screen - they just used the templates?

1) Removing the dash top makes it easier to plug in the windshield-mounted antenna wire to the antenna amplifier, which is located underneath the dash sheet metal. It is possible to plug in the antenna wire with the dash top in place, but it is harder.

2) I am fussy about my leather covered dash top, so I wanted to remove it just to avoid any potential damage to the delicate leather.

3) I was doing wiring work in the area anyways (for a powered rear view mirror with video input) so I had to remove the dash top.

Ah ok - that makes sense in your case.

You are correct! Unfortunately someone fit Fuyao glass previously, and that install looks to be somewhat of a hack job, so might as well fix it correctly haha
