I stopped by PECLA in October and they had a Singer on a lift and what looked like several Singer engines apart on various tables and carts, so I'm sure this plan has been in the making for some time.
It's an interesting twist on a typical brand collaboration. Given Singer create 'reimagined' Porsche's with prices into the millions by leaning into existing Porsche brand equity, they are now seemingly legitimized by the very brand that inspired them. This move will raise some eyebrows.
I guess Porsche didn't want to continue making the "second best" Porsche's you could buy...
It'll be interesting how close Porsche builds the engines to what Ed Pink and Rothsport has been doing. Maybe related but with Porsche entering this game now, will it drive down 3.8 and 4.0 conversions for us peasants? Wishful thinking.

How much is a thorough 3.8 or 4.0 conversion these days from a reputable builder?

Yes - wishful thinking... PMNA does not and will not build engines for non-racing related customers. This was a very unique contract between Porsche and Singer. Ed Pink shot themselves in the foot.

What's the chatter on why Ed pink got his walking papers?

Lots of variables on what stays and what goes and how it gets integrated into the OEM points. 3.8 approach, ECU and intake could stay, kind of exists today (by prior X51 example), 4.0 would expect to require new ECU and intake to handle that properly to OEM standards. Cooling on 4.0 will also need addressing for reliability. This is 90’s electronics. Swap out the ECU and a bunch of bridges need it be crossed it integrate to OEM.
The “!” dash is a whole world of dependencies once the OEM ECU is out of the loop. And then there is the immobilized for some/many.
9M has been pretty transparent in the price point for their engine builds, but OEM integration is the blackhole that for PCNA to offer public kits would have a hurdle with. Expectations would be turnkey and possible EPA concerns.
Singer and Gunther start from a clean sheet and thus the price point to be paid for 90’s style and 2010’s tech.
Possibly the first step into an eventual liquidity event for Singer Vehicle Design, as Porsche corp tries to find growth and revenue in new places (e.g. Porsche Classic). Maybe it'll lead to a buy out SvD at some point in the future.
Do the current Singer motors past CA smog? If the car is registered as a 964 on paper I would assume so. Or are Singers technically for "off road use only"?
