Sweet car. Was that one of 3R racing's SWC cars? One of them was driven by Randy Pobst and or Mike Fitzgerald for a while also I believe.
You can still be a member of HWFMR is you are slow in a fast car, right?

Greg, yes, that's a 3R car. The Fitzgerald (car sold recently, the Wiens car is still for sale, and the Pobst car was purchased last Fall by a friend of mine.

As for driving slow, I'm about as conservative as it gets. The 3R guys were telling me things about the car, such as "don't speed-shift until the engine has heat in it." I was thinking "what is speed-shifting?"

Skip - you're my hero.

I went and talked to Bob about those cars, and fell in love, unfortunately, my wife does not share the love, and told me that I'd be sleeping in that car and riding the bus if I bought it.

Recaro's are comfortable, but not in the dead of winter.

Are you planning on doing some PCA DE's in the area as well???

keep it up

Doug

Skip,
Those cars are very quick. I don't know if you have driven it yet but they were geared much shorter than stock Cup Cars and you will be shifting all the time. That may or may not be a good thing depending on the track. Did they give you a second ECU with a lower rev limit? Friend that raced one a while back said he had a 8000rpm max and a 8500rpm max option. Since the engine has about a 40 hour service life it might be smart to use the lower rev limit.

Friend that has one and raced it on Hoosier's was just a tick slower than a couple well driven GT3RS's and faster than several. Simply an amazing ride, congrats.

Hi Doug,

I'm going to be at the "No Times Good Times" DE at 2nd Creek on Sunday to get the feel of the car. I'm the co-chair for the "Top Gun" DE in July, also at 2nd Creek, so I'll definitely be there. I'll be at other DEs that don't conflict with the Club Races, so hopefully at some point we can meet.

I'm not married, so I'm trying to live out this fantasy while I still can!

Skip - Unfortunatly, I can't make it on Sunday, but am planning on doing the Top Gun event.

completely off topic and of interest to most here, but what's happening to SCR? going away???

Racers of the world, we need to start a "Save the Racetrack" theme...

Skip

Congratulations! I came back from a holiday (vacation) today and find another reason to be jealous of you! The internationally-known Porsche fanatic whose HWFMR videos provide so much enjoyment has only got himself a new toy. Good for you, I say. Just keep posting the videos to give us some laughs (er, I mean DE, of course)!

Keep racing and enjoying.

Yes, SCR is going to close, but they're working on a 1-year extension. In any case, I'm very worried that we'll be trackless in Denver for at least a year...

Hey Grant, I saw you yesterday when I was corner-working but didn't get a chance to catch-up with you in the paddock. It looked like you were giving those 996s in your group a run for their money, proving the "Lighter is Faster" adage. Porsche knows this, but I'm still worried that they will let the luxury-car-featuritis ruin future models.

The new car was a handful at SCR, not really being setup well for a relatively small track. It's still one of my favorite "technical" tracks, and I'll miss it when it's gone. I'm hoping that they get the one year extension as I know that the new track won't be ready by next year. I only wish that they'd build the new track North of Denver, not East, as that would be much closer to me.

Hey Skip - yeah, I meant to find you too. Actually, those 996's were holding me up (I let a bunch of them pass so I could slow down and wait for some open track). Next time I'll join your run group (and keep a steady eye on the rear view mirror to let people pass). I've turned 1:17.10 in the little 73 (with lots more potential)...

Grant and Skip -

Just curious about this - what is considered a good time at SCR now days? When I was doing SCCA early '90s there, I had a 1:12....
