Default Why is a 993 hood crest different?

Vandal got me this weekend. The scumbag tried to pry off the hood badge - right in front of my house. Yesterday I came out to see it bent up 90 deg. I flattened it back out, but it needs to be replaced. I guess I got off pretty lucky, since that was it and the hood wasn't dented. Anyway, I figured this would be a good time to go to a silver crest, which would accent my clear front signal lenses and new wheels well. Why are these things so outrageously expensive? I have a buddy with an '80 SC and his badge is faded from the sun and it looks like a new silver badge. I was thinking of buying him a new one (since they're so much cheaper) and then taking his (with his permission, of course. Why won't it fit my car? From shopping around, it seems 993's and 996's have a different badge than earlier 911's. Anyone know about this? Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your vandal trouble. I'll omit the whole "vandal rant".
My hood badge broke, and slid off the first time I waxed the car. Looked like pot metal. Anyway, you can find them at Pomona (swap meet) for $20 pretty easy, or a P-car boneyard. I wouldn't want to pay $35 + up, plus shipping, either.
I can look for one for you if you can wait 'til 4-25 (next Pomona).

Thanks Jeff, but I'll be at the Hershey swap meet by then too. I'd like to get it by this weekend.

Hey Rick..!!!

As you and I have been PMing a bit (and Randy - GREAT PHOTO!!!! Thanks!!!) and while I'm re-programming the Rennlist Direct site (I hope to have it reset this week... I know Ralph is as excited about it as I am - or I HOPE SO!!!)...

Last night - another Rennlist Sponsor asked me to update their pages/prices for Rennlisters - so - here is that AJUSA link...

http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/rennlist?tid=rennlist-site

Now - I have to be honest, I do NOT know how their prices are compared to other Rennlist Sponsors for the Crests - but thought you may want to look there to compare, if you want a Crest before Hershey, OK??

Ok, that settles it. I'll go to AJ USA. Although I'm not gonna spring the $80 for a silver one, their standard gold one is very reasonably priced. I dunno why the silver ones are so 3-4 times as expensive, but it's not worth the extra cash to me. Thanks a bunch guys.

Hell, in that case I'll get two and then donate more cash to the seller just to say thanks.

Hi Rick,

As you probably know - Steve is just kidding. I would know...

See, I sold him the Crest that shoot flames, not the nerve gas loaded Crest...

Hope this helps,

John

Default why would you do that...?

I know to each his own and all that, and maybe I'm missing something here...but why on earth would you want to put a silver "Porsche" badge on your car I can't imagine it would look anything but real bad. I know I can't be the only one who thinks that...maybe I am?

I have to agree with Allen. I love my gold Porsche badge and like the multicolored look of it. The mostly silver badge looks kind of bland to me... Guess I'd have to see it in person. I have a silver car, but I still love the gold badge.

Hershey - I can't wait!

Steve
