I had heard that while the PS2 is an old design, the more recently manufactured ones use an updated compound, can anyone here confirm?

I put the PS2's on the 993 a few years ago, to replace the Sumi HTR ZIIIs. All street driving, and in So Cal, 99% dry conditions. I love the PS2's for my level and type of driving.
225/40/18 fronts, 285/30/18s on the rear. PS4 were not available in the sizes I wanted when I replaced the Sumis.

Tire threads are right up there with oil threads.

Seems like the 4S is the logical choice. One thing I didn't think about - given the length of time I'll have these tires - is that the 4S will probably be in production for a while in case I damage a tire and need a new one. That may not be the case for the older PS2.

Thanks to all for your comments and advice. Much appreciated.

here is another video. Turn the volume up. If you ask me that’s how a Porsche should sound like. Camera car is a tuned corvette chasing me while I’m chasing(being slowed down) by a 650hp M2.
this run was on PS4Ss too.

I don't believe for one minute that Michelin is selling 20 year old technology. My indy recommended the PS2's because he knows I don't drive the car in the rain. I have the PS4's on my BMW Daily drive M3 and I think those are really good tires as well. If you don't drive your Porsche in bad weather, don't lose a wink of sleep over having a fresh new set of PS2's on your car. You could do a lot worse.

So the combination:

225/40/18 fronts, 285/30/18s is better then the
factory recommended 225/40/18 fronts, 265/35/18s for my 300hp car?

I think you may introduce some understeer this way. I assume you have a wide body if you're going 285 rear.

I have 235F/285R. I've been satisfied with the combination. On a wide body, it's just begging for a 285 rear, visually.

EDIT: Just realized this is a typo. I have 295 rears.

The PS2 is the better dry performance tire, and Mike said he didn't drive in the rain. The weekend toy tire.

The PS4S is the better over-all tire, better wet grip, less dry grip, costs less, better tread life. The workhorse DD tire.

Both get equally noisy with mileage.

I wonder if anyone has insight into whether the PS4S will be available for the 993 wide body ?

just like an oil thread - as things stand, we have opinion and experience, and many unanswered questions, so I've fired-off a few questions to Michelin and will report back if/when they give me an answer (within three business days they reckon)

Have a lovely weekend.

Orangecurry,
Thanks for doing that. I have been running 235/40-18 front and 295/30-18 rear (second pair of fronts and third pair of rears) for years on 996 Hollow Spokes on my C2S. Great tires. Have been worried that Michelin would stop making those sizes and the 225/30-18 and 285/30-18 tires for my 993 Hollow Spokes. It's getting harder and harder to find great tires in these sizes.
