This is nothing like an oil thread. Oil specs have changed since air cooled cars were built and sold. Roads and 993s have not changed which these tires will be fitted and driven on.

This is not a case like the CGT where car was too much for the tires fitted at the factory when sold. PS2 or PS4s will never be not enough for a 993. These two tires, regardless of which you choose, are both premium choices.

I have to agree both are great tires but if they made the 4S in a 285 or 295 width for reasonable money I would buy them hands down over the PS2's. I have run the PS2's on my 964 turbo in both 235/295 sizes and 225/285 widths. I dropped down to 285's when the 295's inched up to nearly $500 a tire it would appear now the 285 & 295 are overly expensive and for a car I no longer push like I did due to its value I will just go back to the 295 for a few extra dollars. I currently run 4S's on my 964 C2 and Boxster GTS. The C2 runs the same wheel size and width as my turbo 8&10 x 18" with 225/265s. Prior to running the 4S's I ran the SS's on the car in same widths. IMO the 4S is superior in every way over the PS2 and SS. I actually found the SS to be slightly better than the PS2 under most conditions and similar in the dry. I have tracked my Boxster with the 4S's and years ago I tracked my C2 with PS2's. The PS2's squawked like crazy and heat cycled out quickly the 4S's lasted far longer and gave superior dry grip. I found they gave me as much dry grip as the old R888 M compounds and superior wet but I never cared for those.

These are still superior to most any street compound tire. I do like the Conti Extemes but they aren't the Michelin 4S's IMO maybe a bit between the PS2 and SS.

Edit: PS4s are about $100 cheaper than PS2s and available in the sizes needed. No brainer if you need to replace all 4 corners.

Is it within the realm of possibility for a group of wide body owners to successfully lobby Michelin to offer our size in PS4? Has something like this been done in recent memory? Just thinking out loud.

Sorry. They do offer the right sizes. Not sure why it did not show up on first search.

I don't see the 285/30-18 for the wide body rears. I understand many folks are savvy enough to slightly deviate from the recommended tire size. I am not.

I have recently bought my first Porsche - a 2019 Carrera S MT. Have 13K Miles on the original Michelin PS 4S rear tires. Street driving only no track (yet). Dealer recommend replacing. What sort of mileage are people seeing on these tires?

bonus question - how often do people have alignments done if you’re not getting new tires? dealer suggested annually.

I wish they made a 285/30 or 295/30 for my turbo. I am not sure why they limit it to the PS2. When I first tried the PS2 back in '05 I was wowed how much better they were than most anything else but tire technology has changed tremendously since. We take for granted how good tires are today. My friend does vintage racing, mostly vintage RSR's, 935's, Can Am and GTP cars. The tubs have to be reinforced as todays tires have so much more grip than they did back when they were raced. The new tire technology was breaking the aluminum tubs apart. I can't imagine what it was like driving those with old rubber compounds back in the day.

BTW I run a 255/285 on my Boxster GTS and it is a huge improvement over the 235/265 it came stock with and so much better than the Pzeros Porsche supplied them with.

I am a PS2 guy so was not paying close attention. Seems PS4 size availability is following PSS?

13K miles on the rear of a 911 is reasonable longevitiy.

alignments? Look to see how your tyres are wearing, then decide. Unlikely you will need an annual alignment unless you are driving thru a lot of potholes, or slamming the curbs at the track.

what are we looking at for sidewall thickness with 285/30 compared to 295/30?

The 295 is closer to the stock rolling dia at 25" vs the 285 at 24.8"

what would be the downside of running the PS4S 285-35/18 on the rear of a wide body C2S? there's no 4 wheel drive VC to harm. Would it hinder the proper function of the ABS?
