I think owning a GT2 would have you climbing back UP the slippery slope as he has already started at the bottom

I'll offer bkcsr my engine so he can get it federalized, ...of coarse I'll need his engine in exchange.....its all love here at Rennlist

Congrats on the purchase of such a special 993!!

For importing German spec. cars, try John Tatos of Elite Auto Imports.
(jtatos@hotmail.com , 541-210-0806). John specializes in importing Porsches, MB and BMWs, federalizing them and then reselling them. He helped import my RUF from Germany. He takes care of transport, custom clearance, federalization, DOT paperwork etc. He has an import license that allows him to take cars that DOES NOT yet meet DOT requirements out of port. That to me is the single most important reason why I used his services. No affiliations, just a very satisfied customer. If you try him, you can say Pong Ng referred you.

I assumed your GT3 is in Germany, and not in Manila. He ships his Porsches from Bremmerhaven, Germany, to Port Hueneme in CA. If you need a driving mate to pick it up, come to SF, we'll go down in my RUF and caracvan back together. How's that for Rennlister service?

CP (Chun Pong Ng)
Thanks CP. I'll contact John within the month. My car is in Manila. There are 3 original 993 GT2's in Manila. Thanks for the offer. Depending on where the ship docks, maybe we can meet up.
Cheers

Hi. I just came from the Porsche Club (Manila) breakfast . A friend of mine brought his 996 GT2. Awesome car, very refined yet can be absolutely fierce when required. Perhaps the best of both worlds.

Yes but nothing beats the rawness of the 993 GT2. Perhaps that is why it is so coveted, as it appeals to the purist. Aircooled, fast, and evil!!!

Don't kill me but....

I prefer the 993 GT2 in front of the 996 GT2.
Perhaps it's the mean looks, or is it the pure and raw spirit.
Dunno what it is, it just attracts me more...

Hi Rassel. That is why I bought the 993. I like the looks and the fact that it's very raw. It demands total attention when driving. Since it's my first Porsche, I'm still learning (only had it 3 days now).

Bryan,

If your car is in manila, John may not be too helpful in te shipping department. Is your car Euro spec, or Asian spec. (if there's such a thing)?

Hi CP. The car is European spec. It came off the production line July 17, 1996 and was sent to Porsce Motorsport division for the M64/81 engine upgrades and wheels. I believe a total of about 50 road going units were made (7 right hand drive). I don't think shipping is a problem, just meeting the EPA reguirements seems to be the major hurdle.
Cheers,
Bryan

Hey, to each his own... I can't take anything away from the 993 GT2. It is the quintessential motorsports Porsche!

Except perhaps that the refined 996 GT2 is faster!

To me the 996 GT2 was the FIRST 996 derivation that actually made me fall in love. Never loved the 996 Turbo or GT3 lookswise (except for Macfly's slate grey color) let alone the standard C2/C4. I love the 993 in all its iterations and the 993GT2 would be great to have as a complement to the current GT2.

Bryan,

I'm sure John is much more knowledgable in this area, but my understanding is that European spec. Porsches do meet U.S. DOT and EPA requirements (including CA emission, the toughest in the country). What's needing conversion are the exterior visual stuff, such as amber turn signals, red tail-lights. And of course, the odometer.

Seems like the big test is whether there is a substentially similar version of the car selling in the States. For instance, a 911 has U.S. equivalents, but a Nissan Skyline does not. I'd imagine a 993 GT2 would have similar U.S. versions, but then John would know about that, much more so than I do.

In any case. Good luck and please keep us posted of your adventure. This is a fascinating car.
