Default 993 Door Restoration

Hi All,

Warning: This is my first post, i've done a search but couldn't find a mention of this particular Lakewell product which seems odd.

I've just bought a 993 that is in bad need of interior restoration. Ive found good info on the forum for seats, carpet, etc but curious in your thoughts on the doors. My current doors aren't torn or terribly damaged just really worn / look lackluster from high mileage, sun, etc. See image.

Options:

1. Restore the current leather / plastic with some kind of treatment by pro.
2. New leather applied over the top of current parts via an upholster.
3. Replace with newer parts from Porsche or donor cars.
4. Find an alternate / substitute product - OEM RS door panels
5. Find an alternate / substitute product - 3rd Party parts - non-OEM?

Im thinking I want to keep it stock and in the OEM family but found this from Lakewell. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this approach (non-OEM) frowned upon?

Door Panels (Pair) Porsche 993 RS '94-'98

Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks

Your door panels look nice, not warped, dented, or torn. If they're faded, have an upholstery shop re-dye them black. Unless you prefer the look of RS door panels.

They are vinyl? Right?
just clean and polish them with the usual vinyl care products out there and they will come out nice.

No need for a pro, purchase some Griot’s Interior Cleaner and a soft bristle detailing brush. Spray a section and gently scrub in circles and random motions. Wipe clean with a microfiber and move to the next section. Once clean apply 303 Aerospace using a microfiber cloth. Apply a little pressure as it will remove any remaining dirt/soil from the surface while leaving behind the UV protection.

The interior can also be used on the carpet, spray and gently scrub with microfiber cloth. Use a brush or comb to gently pull the fibers so they look uniform.

Done.

Good recommendations above. You’ll be amazed what hot water and the right cleaners and treatments will do. Dawn diluted in hot water will lift the years of grease and sweat. Just go a section at a time and be patient.

Cool, i've now watched a few videos on the Griot's Interior Cleaner / Vinyl Dressing and on Adam's Leather & Interior Dressing (works on Vinyl too) so getting some confidence. Make sense to do some minimally invasive work first see what results I can get before going drastic. Will focus on cleaning and matte protectants, want to avoid anything shiny.

Agreed, these cars were built with very good materials and designed to last. The only issues Ive found is when they have been damaged by exposure to large amounts of water or baking in the sun for years. Also note that Dawn is a bit harsh, if you want to use a household cleaner I would dilute woolite and use that. In fact for the silver knit carpet Diluted woolite works very well and is very safe.

This 100%. Well, not sure if matters what you use for cleaner, but 303 makes them look new. Do both sides and the rest of the vinyl in no time. Reapply the 303 as needed as it soaks in and overtime you won’t need to reapply frequently at all.

This one is what I use on vinyl and plastic. It’s the original.

How does this compare to the 303 Aerospace?

I’ve been using this one for the past 15 years now, no complaints but less dust or less shine is always welcome:

There is nothing special about the factory RS panels (i have them) except for possibly the pull straps. I've seen more than a few cases of the aftermarket red straps fading to pink. But you can buy replacements (964.555.832.00.N13) that won't for $43USD.
